Sam, Dean, Castiel, PG, 1,900 words

a/n: Set between SPN 5x13 and 5x14, with a shout-forward to 5x18. Written for maychorian's birthday. She asked a while back for "Sam&Dean&Cas...something in a meadow." This is not nearly as peaceful as that sounds

This is wonderful! I love seeing them work to learn the new weapon and the fact that they got sword-fighting lessons is awesome. The echoes of years of sparring together for Dean and Sam are particularly lovely.

This was so sweet. I love how Castiel isn't totally awkward using slang. I loved the detail of Sam and Dean having not sparred for a long time, and I love how exasperated Castiel gets through the whole story - and the way that Dean keeps pushing and pushing at the angel with his words and even his actions, with the wrestling at the end. I also liked the details of the fighting style - short swords and so hand to hand combat is just as important.

The tone of this story was surprisingly calm for a fic about fighting, basically, and it was a really nice fic to wake up to. =D

Thank you! I liked the idea of things being at the stage where there's still an awkwardness if he uses vernacular, but that he's also picked up a lot of language and it's become second nature to him as well.

Sam and Dean I think spent S5 fumbling back towards each other -- the sparring here a moment of them remembering how well they work together, how much they like working together.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

Ooooooooh, Castiel being all annoyed with them, and Sam enjoying it, and Dean being a pushy jerk and then trying to wrestle with Castiel and just...all of it. so so SO wonderful. And this:

And if Dean got hurt by Castiel in all this roughhousing, Cas would go around looking guilty and mournful and wouldn't talk about it, Dean wouldn't talk about it, and Sam felt a headache just thinking about it.

AHAHAHAHA, YES. So much this! I love all this says about the three of them and their relationship and their personalities and the way they mesh and clash. Poor, poor Sam, having to deal with two stoic warriors who won't talk about their feelings. ♥♥♥ Oh, I love it.

The three of them makes my heart happy, and I needed to write some Sam&Dean bonding. I'm really glad all the different relationship dynamics worked and you liked your present! <3<3 Awesome prompt. The way Castiel's gaze went heavenward, the slump of his shoulders, made Sam have to bite back a laugh -- it was an old joke, made real. His brother could test the patience of an angel.

Hee. But we knew that already. *g* I love imagining Castiel's expression and body language here, a funny break from his usual posture. Same all through the fic; I think you captured him and his manner.

Also: Sam and Dean swordfighting/wrestling = win!
