And We're Back! But We Need Help.

Oct 19, 2007 16:09

Hi, we're murklins and wistfuljane, the new maintainers of dotcoms_refresh. We'd like to send a huge thank you out to the previous members of this newsletter -- callsigns, ficbyzee, annavtree, cyanei, shanalle -- who put in so much effort into getting it off the ground and who were gracious enough to let us take over when we eagerly emailed them with all of our hopes and dreams for an active bandom newsletter.

We have only a couple changes planned for dotcoms_refresh. First, we're switching to a daily posting schedule, so you can expect to find fresh bandom links here every day. We've also created some more detailed guidelines as to what we will link to and what we will not; please review our profile page to see what's new. And if you need to contact us, please note our new email address: dotcoms.refresh@gmail.com.

Now, to support a daily posting schedule, we're going to need some help -- we need five additional editors to make this work. Two editors are just not enough in the long term, we will burn out and stop posting and then everyone will be sad. Newslettering is not a glamourous job, but it's a great way to feel like a valuable part of the fannish community and you'll meet and work with some awesome people (like us!). Please, if you believe that a newsletter is an important part of the fandom backbone and you have the time and skills listed below, drop us a line and join the team!

- you consistently have about 2-3 spare hours, one day per week
- you are willing and able to use Firefox
- you have a working knowledge of the social bookmarking site del.icio.us, or are confident that you'll be able to pick it up
- you know how to make and edit LiveJournal posts, including the creation and alteration of links and username tags
- you have good attention to detail
- YOU REALLY LOVE BANDOM

You don't need to know much about HTML for this newsletter since we use a script to format the links and create the newsletter post. Most of the work you'll do on your day will be checking over the post that the script creates, correcting any broken links or incorrect information, and then collecting links for the next day's post from our watcher journal's f-list. You'll post any links you find to our shared del.icio.us account, and then the script will gather the links from there and magically create the next day's newsletter. It may sound a bit complicated at first, but it should be super easy once you get the hang of it.

If you're interested, please email us at dotcoms.refresh@gmail.com or comment to this post. Once we have five interested volunteers, we'll start posting new issues. We are so happy to be able to bring you a revitalized bandom newsletter, please come help us out! It will be fantastic!
