As Februray draws to a close so does two motnhs of working on fiction. How did it go?
It went odd. First off I was trying to bring home two stories I had started last session. One, I had managed to get through the first and second draft, the second I wasn't quite finished with the first draft. Problem is, both stories were big, like 60 pages or so (my cross to bear, I guess), and the first one needed some fairly heavy revisions. I've spent a lot of time on those two-- which kind of makes me feel like I haven't done anything new this session.
Which is wrong because I did do one short piece (historical fiction) from start to finish, and tightened up another short piece that I did last session. Right at this moment I'm trying to get through the first draft of another short fantasy piece. That last one will probably have to extend into March a little bit, which is fine.
In my nonfiction month, I've got my GALADRIEL: TWO AGES A DARK QUEEN essay 3/4 of the way ready to go from last session, and that has lead to an idea for another (and let us all hope the last) JRRT/LOTR essay, working title: FRODO'S BIG SLIDE. I also have two HPL essay ideas (one tying some of his fiction to scientific/legal events of the day, the other painting both he and REH as climate change alarmists). Not really sure which one I'm going to do.
I wanted to dip my toe back into the science writing field, and I have several ideas (which escape me at this moment), but the most likely one builds on an article I wrote a while ago, but it needs more of a personnel story (not mine), which means I'm probably going to be hanging upside down in a bat cave in western OK. I know, I know, good problem to have. But who has the time? I kind of want to do that and work on a simpler one at the same time.
This weekend will be a transition between fiction and non, which I am kind of looking forward to. Of course, I've already started to put together various plans for the weekend, so no screwing around on it!
