I completely agree that the dog foods that poster is suggesting are crap.

But I do not feel table scraps should be avoided at all cost. It all depends on what you mean by table scraps. If you mean bacon grease, steak grizzle and the like then yes, that should not be given. All that fat is just as bad for the dogs as it is for us.

But if you mean a bite of carrots, a spoonful of mashed potatoes, a slice of chicken, then I see nothing wrong with that. That food is actually healthier then the stuff that comes in their kibble, even if you buy something like Wellness or Innova.

I understand that many pugs are overweight and the ones I know just *love* food. but it's not necessarily a table scrap problem. It's an owner problem about not knowing what is an appropriate treat and what is an appropriate amount. Many owners just cannot control the portions they give their dogs and they overfeed them, including treats and snacks.

I often feed my dog things I am eating while I am at the table. She doesn't whine or beg. She does sit there and watch quietly though. She knows that if she sits there nicely, or better yet lays down and waits patiently, she will give little snacks as well. She doesn't get them every time but more often then not if it's something safe for her she will get a nibble.

Even though I feed her right from my plate I can leave it on the coffee table and walk away and she will never steal from the plate. I can go upsairs or un the garage (out of sight) for a good amount of time and she will not move closer to the plate or try to nibble on her own.

Again I think it's just a lack of proper training. But since the average dog owner is clueless about good food choices and training I understand way people just make the general statement about not feeding table scraps, especially while they are eating.

We do the same with our guys. If they lay down and act nice while we're eating, they might get some plate lickings or a tidbit. I see nothing wrong with that. They get quality kibble the rest of the time and we're vegetarian health freaks so everything they get off our plates is going to be pretty darn good. But OH how they love bread! I think they probably have dreams about floating peanut butter sammiches.

Indi *loves* bread products!! She must not have gotten the memo that she's a carnivore.

I actually used bread two days ago to get her to eat some rabbit I bought. She's had ground rabbit mixed with veggies before (a premade raw food). So I thought she liked rabbit. Apparently I was wrong! Or maybe it was because this was more fresh and had a strong smell.

She would not touch the thing. It was hole, but chopped into meal sized pieces. So I cutit into teeny pieces and placed those between small pieces of bread. If the ratio was high on the bread side she woulod eat it. I didn't want to waste the rabbit and sometimes if she eats enough of something she gets used to it.

I still have 2/3 rds of the rabbit in the freezer :/

Oh and Indi was very happy this morning to get tidbits of my Hawaiian bread
