Dog Training

Locally we have a dog trainer called Mr. O's - the commercial shows dogs sitting on steps wearing sunglasses with a bulldog "saying" "Cause you gots to goes to Mr. O's". Ok, cute slogan. That's where it ends.

Drop your dog off for the day and 8 hours later, you have a completely trained dog. At the end of the day they show you how to work w/your dog. I'm immediately sceptical of places that offer to train your dog in a day, while you're not there to witness first hand types of training.

Recently I met Mr. O. himself at a local home show. His flyer states "Training is achieved through the miraculous grace of God." Well, now I'm curious - I want to know what type of training methods he uses? Praise? Treats? Cesar Milan?

He COMMUNICATES with your dog. Hello, pet psychic anyone? He uses choke collars and praise to get the dog to do what he wants it to do. I ask about alpha rolling and how that can be very bad for a dog, I get the following response "I've never had to alpha roll, but it is a method that can be safely used." At this time I'm ready to take his cross and shove it down his throat - this is how I communicate. And there is no such thing as outdated training methods? Oh really? So does that mean it's still acceptable practice that if your dog eliminates in the house you are to stick it's nose in it and beat it with a newspaper? "Oh no, that's not training"....yes it was, that's how my parents and their parents did it many hundreds of years ago.

His website is here.
