I wish my work would give the damn rabbit away that's on the lock down unit. :(

He lives in a 24"x24" cage. He eats crap (seeds and Cheeri-Os... don't know why.) He lives on pine. He doesn't get socialized, or handled much. His only interaction, other than being bumped by wheelchairs, or poked by old people with dementia, is when we (me and one or two others) take him out to let run loose through the small dining room during the nights.

Last night, I took him out, the first time I've been on the unit for a while, and his nails were HIDEOUS. I mean, at least 1/2 inch longer than they should be.

So I dug out a pair of nail clippers that we use for the residents, and went to work. He also had matted feces stuck to his perineal (ambersaigh, I used that word JUST FOR YOU *wink*) area. So I trimmed that off with medical scissors.

Poor Eddy. I'm going to speak to the recreation director about him. It's not a suitable environment for him at all, and he's being neglected and treated like furniture.

non-lj, animal neglect
