miscellaneous this and that.

chemo 13 scheduled for next Thursday, a 6 week break, then PET scan and a re-evaluation of the disease and further treatment if necessary the first week of August. Only 1 year later. I am looking forward to regaining my brain, eyebrows and eyelashes, and losing the numb feet and hands. The individual treatments are quite do-able, but the long term side effects are really annoying.

Riverfest has come and gone. My friend J came up from Houston with her daughter Sydney, and Susie was back again this year. Set up was very frustrating because I felt micro-managed, but I retained my Zen, as it was a Type-A way of helping. Also,we had very bad weather on Wednesday--lost an entire day to tornadoes, and then we had to re-do most of what had been done the previous 4 days. However, just like every year, it was all completed by 5pm on Friday, just in time for the opening of the gates. The festival itself was extremely successful with record crowds, and the first time in 14 years that it did not rain at all during the festival. Clean up was also frustrating, as all my Type-A help vanished. However, all banners are cleaned, and ready for post festival inventory. I was nearly crippled the for first 2 weeks of June, but that was just overdoing it with less than optimal health. No injuries, sunburn, or dehydration were sustained.

Until I dropped a cookie sheet on my toe a week later. Ow. I think I broke it. Nothing to be done, but it took 2 weeks for the bruising to fade, and it still hurts. The chocolate chip pecan oatmeal cookies were entirely worth it. I have also found the answer to single-person gluten free bread, a pair of 5x5 bread pans. I can make a half loaf of sandwich and a half loaf of breakfast bread at the same time, or just make a half-recipe. A whole loaf of bread would go stale before I could finish, and I always sick of it, anyway. now I can have raisin bread and have my sandwich too. :) They were not cheap, about 15$ for one, but sometimes, needs must take precedent.

Festival also made me realize that I had to re-evaluate my cell phone plan. I had to buy a 30$ refill 3 times in May/June, and my end date is now mid August... and that meant that I had paid like 90 bucks for a month and a half of service. My sister has a 45$ Straight Talk plan for unlimited voice/text/data, and that sounded good. I looked at Boost, and a couple of other possible 3 or 4G service, but Straight Talk still sounded good. In the meantime, I have filled up my 7G MP3 player. Since I would have to upgrade the phone to take advantage of any plan, I went with Straight Talk 30$/30 days plan that has 1000 voice/text & 32K of data (a lot more than I can use), and a phone that can double as MP3 player, and works for data. yay! a 16 or 32G MP3 player is about 230$, and I got plan and phone for a hundred bucks. I feel very smug. So I have a new cell phone # if you had the old one. I am keeping the old phone for emergency purposes for a while.

I also got a wild hair to re-paint the bathroom. The paint color was never right, and the faux marble has aged over the last 9 years and the Spring Green was even more wrong. I got a nice pale taupe (Raffia Cream) that contrasts with the sage green vanity paint, and the green/taupe shower. I am also finally installing door frames and base boards, and towel bars. The kitchen is next. new ceiling fan install, repainting, and base boards and door frames as well as a new sink/faucet, and maybe even a new dishwasher. I am terrible with finishing work, and am forcing myself to do it. My bedroom also has a new ceiling fan today.

I am in the process of lapghan #6. It is a little less convenient to drag around than granny squares, but I loathe sewing in the ends (there is a definite pattern here), so I have moved to huge wide stripes. :) I did finish the 2 granny square lapghans, though. they very much look like I hated doing them. I also needed new foam ear covers for my headset, and those are impossible to find. Also, I found the foam didn't absorb sweat very well, so I crocheted a cover for my headset out of blue/white cotton yarn. Keeps my ears from sweating, replace the foam very nicely and the cover over the bridle keeps the adjustable feature from pinching my hair and pulling it. It is a .... unique look. It works, so I am going with function over fashion.

The Harry Potter movies have all been watched all the way through in prep for DH2. I had to go buy Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet in order to get Gilderoy Lockhart out of my Head. I kept expecting KB to whip out his wand and or photograph out when I'd see him anything else. It worked. Also, I waited a long time for that DVD, and then a bit more to get it at a reasonable cost. I love that production.

Had to replace the Wii, when it moved out of the house. I am really enjoying my Roku, which works so much better than the Wii for streaming TV. Still do not miss cable tv.
