I had two interviews today for Americorps positions that I wanted. I got offered a job on the spot by both of them and it's been a pretty awesome day. I took the tutor 4th graders in reading job, it's the Washington Reading Corps through the Fremont Public Association to be more specific about it, somewhere at a school not too far away from my house. The woman in charge was talking about building bridges across intersections of oppression and commitment to social justice and asked me why I thought people were poor. Then she said I had the best description of community she'd heard in a really long time. Boy, I needed today. I've been kinda done hanging out without anything much to do and no schedule. I feel relieved -it's been since mid July that I had a more than occasional job. That's two months. I've got a strict one now, we get 5 sick days for the next year and no vacation. It's gonna be awesome though. I get to earn hours reading social justice books, how cool is that?
I'm really excited to have a job!!!!! And get a haircut, I'm going crazy. Also crazy is that I'm working two events tomorrow for catering, which means money and tiredness. I wish I could go dancing instead. for free.
