Recently I decided that I wanted to get a nice dSLR camera. I've narrowed the choices down to either a Nikon D40 or a Canon Digital Rebel XT, the Canon is over $100 more, but it is a better camera. I think I'm leaning towards the Canon, although a couple days ago I was almost ready to get a Nikon D40.
With the Rebel, I'll be able to take shots at ISO 800 with little grain, so it'd be better if I'm doing large prints. Although the Nikon didn't fare as well, you can only shoot it up to ISO 400 before you start to notice the grain. And another negative to the Nikon is that there is no built in auto focus motor, so I'd have to buy an AF-S lens to have auto focus, and those lenses cost more than the regular lenses. Although if I buy the Nikon D40, it has a bigger 2.5" LCD, uses SD cards and I have a 2GB SD card laying around, so that cuts $50 off the price tag, because I'd have to buy a Compact Flash card for the Rebel XT camera.
The Rebel may be able to take 8MP pictures, but 6MP should be more than enough, considering even the 30" Apple Cinema displays can only show up to 4.1MP. With the Rebel I'd have access to many more lenses that cost less, and it has more auto focus points than the Nikon D40. In the long run, the Canon may turn out cheaper if you include the glass that I'd be buying over time, although I have a limited budget right now, so I'd be stuck with the kit lens until I get my next 2 months pay at least.
That was fun talking camera >_> XD. If there are any photographers on my friends list, advice would be appreciated. BTW my budget is $650, $700 at the absolute most.
