So I did have granola for breakfast, but my other predictions did not prove to be so true! Ha, sardonic yesterday-self! Ha, I say! Actually, my day wasn't too different from the one I predicted. Well, let's see:
I did eat granola for breakfast, but I also got coffee from the bodega downstairs before getting on the train. There were only a few other people there, and they were all speaking Spanish, so I ordered mine in Spanish too. I go in there a lot, so I'm sure they recognize me, and the guy behind the counter was a mite taken aback by my Spanish, I think. After he got me my coffee he was asking me questions about where I'm from, where my family's from. It's always like, I'm Spanish! I'm speaking it for a reason! It's okay! This was really exciting, though, because despite living in Bushwick since August, this was my first Spanish conversation with anyone. When I try to talk to the people in my building in Spanish, they answer me in English. It's so sad! My next door neighbors even call me Ann...because I'm not white enough already. It's like, listen I don't have a lot to go on here, but I am Spanish, and my name is Spanish, so at least give me that! So, today: PROGRESS.
I did go to class, yes, a class called Narrative Investigations (have I mentioned that I love Gallatin?), but then instead of going to the LGBT Office I finished homework that was due in my second class of the day. My Narrative Investigations class is pretty neat; the teacher is really enthusiastic and fun, and I find the people in the class really interesting. We have great discussions, but the one thing that bother me about the class is that our teacher, as nice as she might be, never calls on me. It's kind of frustrating, especially for someone who learns by talking (I'm pretty sure this is true & a thing for me, just go with it). I made up for it, though, when she finally did call on me at the end of class, by comparing Plato and Aristotle's views on poetry to Mr. Spock and Capt. Kirk, and then having actual evidence and reasoning to back it up. Zing.
Then I did homework for another class. Then I bought a notebook, to function as journal for my class called Language, Imagination, Community & Activism, and a falafel, to function as lunch. Then I went to the library, where my next class, Writing for Television II, meets. I really really like this class so far; we've only met twice, but I think we have a really good group. I took Writing for TV I last semester, with the same teacher and a number of the same students, and am really looking forward to this semester. Last semester we were in a big empty room, and a lot of the other students were kind of reserved, so it took us longer to warm up to each other. This semester we're in a cramped little seminar room in the library, all gathered around one big table, and yelling at each other about Sleepless in Seattle (I don't care what the kid who wants to write a Gossip Girl script thinks, it sucks). These first six weeks in this class are going to be reading and studying structure and doing writing exercises, and the second half we'll be writing spec scripts. I think I'm going to do a Big Bang Theory, because we're working on it in class for the writing exercises, and I think I've come up with a fun idea for an episode.
After that, I did not go home, but went to the LGBT Office to say hi to people, and left shortly after. Then I went home. I did some reading on the train (like, a page). I did not do homework when I got home, but I did shower and clean up and make dinner (which was not beans, so there) (it was sweet and regular potato home fries, some vegan sausage, a grapefruit and an apple) (not all at once). I did watch too many hours of television, but it wasn't as much as usual! That's a start! I also don't have class until 2 tomorrow, so I have time to do reading then. Anyway, I started the second season of Supernatural, and I am still loving it! It's much better done than I anticipated. Whether this means it's well done, I haven't decided yet, but I am definitely enjoying it.
Tomorrow, I anticipate: waking up late (hopefully not, but I'm being realistic), eating granola (oh snacks, I'm out of (soy) yoghurt! What am I gonna do?) (I'll figure something out), reading on the train, going to class, then maybe running errands?, buying books, then maybe coming home?, watching tv, DOING HOMEWORK (because it NEEDS TO BE DONE) (it's mostly just reading, but still) (some of it is even fun, geez just do it). I don't really have a great plan for tomorrow; I only have one class on Tuesdays and on Wednesdays, and I still don't really know what to do with myself. I'm thinking about volunteering with a local queer community group in Bushwick, I just need to send them a super friendly email? I'm not really sure how one goes about that. But maybe I'll figure it out tomorrow! Maybe I'll go on a walk, or a bike ride (now that I finally have my bike fixed). Maybe now I can really start to explore the area around my house. I just need to do something, maybe yoga, my body just hurts all the time now and I don't know why. And on that note!
