i'm having an emotional crisis of the highest kind. i just got back from my floor's weekly milk & cookies event, where the r.a.s feed us, well, milk & cookies (no milk tonight, though, which was disappointing). usually i don't go because i have a quiz almost every other monday, and i'm studying with a friend in another dorm, but the quiz was postponed this week, so i finally got to go. it was nice, the cookies were alright and i got to meet other people who live on my floor. we were talking about sports, and one guy said that he was from washington! state! which is really exciting because i rarely meet people from washington! and when he and his roommates were leaving, he was asking one of them to help him with excel, and the roommate was like, i don't think i can help you if i didn't write the program.
so, clearly, i wanted to be their friend.
then my r.a. told me they live in the rock band room.
the rock band room is occasionally the bane of my existence. it's been quiet recently, probably because midterms are happening, but it used to play rock band all. the. time. i live across the hall and two apartments down from them, in the back bedroom, and i can still hear it, including lyrics, in my bedroom. eye of the tiger is a favorite. also, songs with steady, skull-boring drum beats. dock-dock-dock-dock-dock-dock-dock, plastic stick on plastic sheet, it NEVER EVER STOPS. well, i mean, it does sometimes, but still! it's annoying!
so now my soul kind of hurts, because i have to reconcile the fact that the interesting people i met tonight are my floor nemeses on whom i have wished great pain/occasional death. maybe they should try this tactic for palestine and israel; sit them down and give them cookies until they make up. also, give palestine the country back. oops! whoa! what?
this weekend was okay; yesterday was my first Safe Zone training as a facilitator, which is kind of like Queer Info & How to be An Ally 101, and then i didn't do anything else. oh! two of my friends were in plays, but i couldn't go to both, so i decided to go to the friend i know less well, and when i got to the theatre there was a fire alarm, and then i couldn't get a ticket so i had to go home. bummer.
today i hung out with my friend ema from high school. she goes to cornell but has an internship in the city for the summer. we had lunch in little italy, then dessert at rice to riches, then went to jackson heights, in queens, to get her eyebrows threaded and shop at the indian market. then i came home, sat in my room for a few hours, watched people play pool, had cookies and had everything i know as right and wrong in my life (or dorm) turned upside down. now i should probably do homework or something.
p.s. i totally saw
leighton meester on wednesday afternoon. she definitely seems like the most fun/interesting of the gossip girls and boys. it was on lafayette and jersey streets. i was on my bike, trying to get to the public library supposedly across the street, all lost and turned around and out of breath. i was wearing my sunglasses and helmet, and didn't really realize that i was staring at her, and maybe should shut my mouth whilst doing so. she didn't seem upset, she just stared back at me until she crossed in front of me and walked off. it was awesome.
