So, the media. Can I just say it's crap right now? Good, because I just did. In fact, I dislike the media very much. And by media I mean, music, movies, magazines, video games, etc... So, I was at a Seminar this weekend at the conferance and it was called "rage against the media". He gave alot of statistics on how much t.v. people watched and how much music they listen to, quite astounding. Youth watch 22hrs or so of t.v. a week. How insane! And parents it was 24-40 hrs a week! Teenagers listen to 4-6hrs of music A DAY! 58% said they get info and advice from Magazines. So that tells you how much the media plays a part in our life. I'm gonna share a verse with you that he didn't share, but I like it. Matthew 6:22-23 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But, if your eyes are bad, then your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" So we need to be very careful what we watch. The media promotes violence, sex, sexuality, homosexuality, substance abuse, self indulgance, vulgarity, evil, and satanism. What a great thing for Christians to par take of so often isn't it? Absolutley not!!! He said to stay away from it. 1st thing to do is over compensate, instead of drawing the line at limp bizkit draw it at whatever it was he said. Instead of that one game where you beat people up and steal their car, draw it mario cart racing. Then he said to educate yourself, look up what movies contain. He said that Christians #1 excuse to watch something bad is symbolism. Then he went on to say how magic is bad and we shouldn't watch it, which I agree with. He mentioned that in Lord of the Rings they call upon the dead to fight their battle. Hmm...sounds magical to me. Why should Christians be watching something where the dead are called upon? Yes, I've watched movies I shouldn't before, but times are changing. I mean, how much is too much? Where is the line drawn? Why is LOTR ok and Harry Potter isn't? Hmmm...? Then there was searching for alternatives. There are other things to do. Don't have to always watch t.v. or movies or something. Then Make changes. Which is what I am doing. I don't want to put myself before all that garbage. Then he also said to look to the bible. Phillipians 4:8 "Finally, Brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things." Think of that every time you turn on the t.v. or want to go see a movie. Truely, it should make a change.
