He wishes to take the risk to protect his mistress, such a noble and pure desire shouldn't be hindered. If he is accepting of the possibility of his death, and his mistress is also willing to allow him, who am I to stop him? It is his life to do with as he feels, not mine. It would be wrong of me to stop him if he is willing to take that chance.
Also, if indeed he must suffer a slow death, he will return. It's not the best of situations no, but it's not a permanent end.
