Jono listened to the TV with only half an ear as he got dressed. Something was going on in California, and he did not care. He kept telling himself that even as he fastened the sonic collar around his neck. He wasn’t an X-Man, it wasn’t his business. They hadn’t done anything for him after he lost his powers, no one had come to see him in the hospital, he wasn’t involved anymore.
The collar felt snug against Jono’s throat as he pulled a jumper over his head. He glanced at the television in time to catch a lingering shot of Angel soaring over the so-called Utopia. Jono grunted, reaching for his overcoat. His phone was ringing, and a quick check of the display told him it was Jubilee. He sighed softly, thumb hovering over the ignore button. The phone continued to ring until it went to voice mail. He didn’t have to listen; he knew what Jubilee wanted.
And then there she was, on the TV. Jono watched Jubilee on the screen for a few moments before the camera swung around to watch something explode. A few minutes later, Jono was on his way out the door, calling Night Thrasher. Hopefully, he could get Jono a ride to California.
