“Do you think he’s actually here?”
Agamemnon peered over the side of the rickety wooden bridge, leathery wings flexing as he considered the drop below. He couldn’t see the bottom, but he could hear the sound of running water below, coupled with the mad cackle of the Carnival of Shadows. Beside him, his cousin Cordelia tied the sleeves of her robe up and back, flexing her hands. The edge of his claws picked at the frayed rope, and he looked over at the girl. His cousin, teammate, and current thorn in his side. The moment she’d heard that Agamemnon was riding off to the rescue of Percy Winkley, she’d demanded he let her come along. Never mind that she was barely able to handle purse snatchers in Atlas Park; she had to meet Percy.
Looking at the two, one would never have imagined the two were related. Cordelia was small and lithe, dressed in silks and satins with a peaches and cream complexion and a head full of silky auburn hair. Agamemnon stood a head taller than her, his skull covered in spikey protusions and his skin coated in green scales.
“If I know Percy as well as I think I do, he’s stuck himself in some corner down there, and is being menaced by Carnies even as we speak.” He put an arm around Cordelia’s waist, leaping off the bridge.
He didn’t like Percy Winkley. Anyone who got kidnapped as often as Percy deserved what they got. Unfortunately for Agamemnon, Percy had information that he needed.
Cordelia squeeked as they plummeted down. Hopefully this would cool her passion for the pest.
