Ted hesitated before stepping in to the royal suite. The lights were already dimmed, and William was already a lump under the sheets. Well, mostly. The covers were already starting to get tangled around his legs, and no doubt would soon be kicked off into a pile on the floor. The door slid shut silently behind the emperor, and he undressed as quietly as he could before easing into the bed. Despite all his efforts, William rolled over, dark eyes glittering in the dim light as he looked at Ted. He sat up briefly, just long enough to plant a dry kiss on Teddy’s lips before flopping back down. “Visiting the brig again?”

Ted ran his fingers lightly up and down William’s arm. “I can’t just pretend they’re not there. They’re our friends.”

This was an old argument, one they’d been having since before the invasion. William just sighed, taking Ted’s hand and bringing it up to his lips. “We’re doing what we need to do.”

“We’re doing what we want to do,” Ted corrected, lacing his fingers through William’s. “We could have ignored Earth for the rest of our lives.”

“So why didn’t we?”

“Because we’re tired of our friends killing each other.”

William nodded, snuggling closer to Ted as his eyes drifted closed. “We’re doing the right thing.”

“The right thing,” Ted murmured.

“They won’t forgive us, but…”

“The right thing,” Ted repeated.

“Yeah.”

It’s the right thing to do, Cassie thought as she studied the ship’s systems. She needed to be completely certain she wasn’t going to blow the life support systems when she started freeing the prisoners. That would be the start. Then get the flagship. If they could capture Billy and Teddy, it would all be over. No more fighting each other. No more killing each other.

She shrunk down even smaller, moving from the consol to the vent as the princess passed her by, a small entourage trailing in her wake. Cassie hurried into the vents, only barely catching her words. “We’ve got a security breach, and I want it found now. The latest breach happened here, so whoever or whatever it was cannot have gone far.”

“Orders, Highness?”

“Find it. Kill it. Bring me it’s head.“
