Gert was mostly thinking about what she wanted to do for summer vacation. She was pretty sure her parents were going to insist on something boringly educational and historical. The trick, she knew, was going to be picking out something interestingly historical to counter them. Seattle had to have something to distract them with, and she could sneak off and his the Seattle International Film Festival.
Trying to figure out how to talk her parents into a summer away from home was way more interesting than being all bored with the kids of her parents friends. Molly kept trying to talk to her, and Gert kept putting her off. The kid might be interesting when she stopped being so sweet… or she might end up like Karolina. And that would drive Gert to well justified homicide.
Coming up with ways to talk her parents into Seattle would have been easier if she had a laptop. Maybe she could talk Alex into letting her use his computer?
Then, of course, Alex opened his mouth, and the whole world changed.
