Pumyra stretched a hand out, plucking a lush orange fruit from the tree overhead. She grinned and began ripping the bitter rind away to get at the sweet flesh beneath. In the distance, she could smell the succulent fish Bengali was grilling over an open flame, making her mouth water and bringing a softer smile to her face.
This life was a simple, primitive on compared to the one she had lived on Thundera, but in so many ways, it was a far richer and happier one. Pumyra popped a few pieces of the sweet, juicy fruit into her mouth as she mused on the way her life had changed.
Lynx-O was singing an old soldier’s song, something he was prone to doing when he was in an especially good mood. He had a strong, rich voice, and the song was mildly dirty; a little ditty about the girl he’d left behind him.
This, she thought, is real wealth.
