“Dad?” Didi called, looking at herself in the mirror. A slightly plump girl with black hair, green eyes, and annoyingly thick glasses looked back, frowning.
“Yeah?” her father called back, probably from the living room.
“Is there something wrong with me?”
She didn't get an answer for some time. She saw her father show up behind her in the mirror, looking worried. “Baby, there's nothing wrong with you. Is there?”
“It feels like some thing's missing,” she said, gathering her hair up into a pony tail, pulling it away from her face. “Why aren't I a mutant? My mom and Granddad and Grandma and Uncle Zeke are all mutants.”
Dexter rested his chin on top of Didi's hair, looking at her reflection in the mirror. “I'm not a mutant, and neither are my parents. There's nothing wrong with not being a mutant.”
Didi shrugged, pushing her glasses up her nose. “It feels like I'm not whole, Dad. I don't know why.”
“I wish I had an answer for you honey,” Dexter sighed, stroking her hair. “You're perfectly fine.”
