Bobby Lee looked blankly at his sister for a very long time before the words finally came to him.
“What do you mean, you’re not going back to school?”
Bobbie Rae stretched out on the couch, pulling her long black hair back from her face. “Just what it sounds like. Ah’m an Avenger now. Ah don’t have time for school.”
“Ma’s gonna have kittens,” Bobby Lee whispered, sinking down into his bed. The already tiny dorm room seemed to get smaller as he stared at the shape-shifter.
“It’s mah life,” Bobbie Rae said, sitting up. “Ah’m an adult, Ah can do what Ah like.”
“Eighteen hardly counts as adulthood,” her twin countered. “And, Christ, you can’t be a superhero full time. You gotta make a living and stuff.”
“Why not? Protean’s a full time superhero. The Avengers pay really well. Between that and the trust fund…”
“Which Ma will never/i> gonna let you have when she finds out you’ve dropped out.”
“She’ll get over it,” Bobbie Rae said, waving her hand dismissively. “She always does.”
