“This is so lame,” Santo announced, crossing his arms over his chest with a sound like concrete blocks sliding against one another. “I don’t do this touchie feelie shit.”

“You think I like this?” Victor hissed back. “I’m the one who has to trust you not to let me fall.”

“Well,” Ms. Frost said sharply, clearly beginning to lose patience with the pair, “that is the point. To show that you trust Santo, and that he in turn is worthy of that trust. Now fall down.”

“He’d let me fall just because he’d think it was funny.”

There was no immediate protest from Santo. It was, in fact, several moments before he finally said, “But not in a real fight.”

Ms. Frost threw her hands up and made a frustrated noise, a clear sign that she had been dealing with the two for far too long. “You two…” She took two steps forward, closing the distance between herself and Victor, and gave the reptilian mutant a shove with enough force to actually send him tumbling backwards. Much to his surprise, he didn’t hit the ground. A quick look around revealed that while Santo was still standing several feet away, one of his hands hand come detached, and was supporting Victor, carefully pushing him back upright.

“You,” Ms. Frost went on, looking pointedly at Victor, “should try having a little more faith in Santo.”
