"Tommy's gonna be a father?" Kate said, faintly incredulous. "I mean, Tommy and Nico?"
Gert nodded, handing Kate a water bottle before popping open her own. "Scary thought," she said.
"Think they'll finally get married?"
"He asked her when she told him."
"No!"
"Oh yes. And you know what she told him?"
"She didn't say yes, did she?" Kate asked, horrified at the thought. Tommy and Nico had been together on and off for years, but there was as much off time as on. They were both incredibly passionate people, but that passion lent itself as much to anger as to love. Their fights were truly something to behold.
"Told him she couldn't marry him if he was the last man on Earth and tossed him out," Gert said.
"Thank God. Can you imagine how bad those two could fuck up a kid if they got married? I don't think they'd be able to last six months before wanting to kill each other."
"They're better this way," Gert agreed.
"What's this put the baby boom up to?"
"Sevem."
Kate's brows came together as she did a mental tally. Billy and Teddy counted for rwo with their dynamic duo, the Parkers were maybe a month away from bringing little May or Ben into the world, She-Hulk was off the reserve list on maternity leave for another month, and Barton was still crowing about little Wally. "Okay, I'll bite. Who's seven?"
Gert coughed, studying her feet.
"No..."
"Try to throw me a shower, and I'm gonna have Old Lace chomp you."
