Ted walked down the row of cells, studying all the familiar faces as he went by. Tommy didn’t say a word to him this time, which was just as well. He didn’t want to face any more accusations from his brother-in-law. Two guards trailed behind him, awaiting whatever orders he might feel the urge to give. He finally stopped in front of Trauma’s cell, where he watched the man try to change shape, only to collapse in pain as the neural net shocked him.

“Son of a bitch!”

“I’d argue, but I don’t really feel like it,” Ted mused. “How are you enjoying our hospitality?”

Ted knew that he was being pointlessly mean, but he’d never much cared for the shape-shifting telepath, especially not after the time he’d almost gotten William killed on a quest to free him from his father’s control.

“Why don’t you come in here so I can show you?” Trauma suggested.

Ted snorted, turning towards the sound of rapidly approaching feet. Sarah was moving at a swift pace that was far too dignified to be called a run. She’d taken on a more Skrull like appearance, the one she usually wore when dealing with the people she would one day rule. She dropped into a deep bow, stopping just short of kneeling at Ted’s feet. “My Emperor.”

Ted saw Trauma watching his daughter far more closely than he liked. “Rise. Walk with me.” He moved on down the row of cells, the princess walking just behind him. He didn’t speak again until he was well out of the cell block. “So?”

“He’s coming. It will take him a while to decide, but he will come. He knows that the cause is a just one.”

Ted studied his daughter’s face and felt a shudder run up his spine. “Hn.”
