“This was not how my life was supposed to be.”
That was the most Surdani had ever said to Sean, not that he minded. Years of being surrounded by unending chatter, first from his siblings and cousins, then from his fellow X-Men and the students, had taught him to enjoy silence where he could find it. And Surdani communicated more in a few short words than most people did with a thousand. He could feel her anguish in each syllable.
Sean nodded, and the Inhuman smiled, if a little sadly. Then Sean’s pager went off. “I’d better go. See you tomorrow?” He shot her a questioning look. There were times when she chose to have no contact with anyone, periods that would stretch out for weeks sometimes.
Surdani nodded.
