Summary: Dexter’s getting more than he bargained for.
Dexter stepped off the plan, looking up at the bright blue Wakandian sky. Diedre clung to his hand, the stuff toy dragon Zeke had given her as a going away present clutched in one tiny fist. “Here we are, baby.”
“Daddy, it’s hot,” Diedre whined.
“Dexter Stein?” A statuesque black woman with close cropped white hair slunk across the tarmac, wrapping in a purple and black sarong. “And Diedre, right?”
“Everyone calls me Didi,” the girl piped up helpfully.
“Diedre’s fine,” Dexter said flatly. “It’s an honor to be here, Princess…” He hesitated, trying to remember how to pronounce the woman’s name.
“Most people just call me Iris.” She smiled, her teeth bright against her dark skin. “It’s the short form of the English translation of my name,” she added, her tone making it clear that she had explained this many times before, and expected to explain it many times after. “If you would follow me, I can show you to your rooms.” She turned, gesturing to two burly men to carry the Stein’s luggage.
“I’m sorry, but I thought we’d be dealing with Prince T’Cullak,” Dexter said, trailing behind Iris.
She looked over her shoulder and grinned. “Good luck pinning Big Brother down. Anyway, you’re dealing with the Vibranium, so that means you’re dealing with me.”
