Monet cried for days after Everett died. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t keep the tears from flowing. It felt like someone had ripped her open and taken out something important. The last time she had felt so empty had been so long ago, and entirely the fault of Emplate killing their mother.
She knew, logically, that in time the hole Everett left would feel less ragged. In time, the wounds would close over. And knowing that made her cry that much harder, both for what was, and for what might have been, because she knew that she would lose him bit by bit.
