There was something about the way Tommy was looking at her that frightened Cassie. Maybe it was because he was holding so still. It was… profoundly unnatural.
“You told them I should have been kept in Juvie. Even after you found out what happened to me there, you told them I should go back.”
Cassie winced. “Tommy, I can explain.”
“You want me to go back there?” he asked, his eyes as cold as ice as he continued to stand perfectly still, and well away from her. “After what they did?”
“You blew up a school, Tommy. You could have killed someone.”
Tommy closed in on Cassie suddenly, so that they were nose to nose. “Did you ever ask why? I never hear you say shit about what Billy did to that one kid. ‘He was just defending himself’. But me? I’m clearly a dangerous lunatic.”
