Title: Ravages of Time
Universe: Runaways
Prompt: 5. Time
Rating: PG
Summary: There comes a point when you have to stop running.

There comes a point when a man gets tired of running. Topher had finally reached that point. He had survived the Great Depression, two world wars, vampire hunters, the attempt of that damn sorcerer in New York to destroy all vampires, and getting turned to dust by a poorly chosen snack. He wasn’t going to run from that stupid werewolf any more.

The speakeasy where they had last been together was still there. It was a legitimate club now, though it continued to serve a largely supernatural clientele. It was neutral territory - the perfect place for a meeting.

Topher was surprised by how small and old she looked, though he shouldn’t have been. Eliza had always been rather doll-like, just barely coming up to Topher’s shoulder in her human form. And she was well into her nineties - not as old as Topher, but she didn’t have immortality to protect her from the ravages of time.

“Wow. You got old.”

Eliza growled, and the hair on Topher’s arms stood on end. He reminded himself that the werewolf had gotten to be this old for a damn good reason - she was tough. Most werewolves died young.

“And you’ve gotten stupid, Chris.”

Topher paused. Nobody had called him Chris in a very long time. “Maybe I think it’s time we settled this. Drink?”

“I don’t drink anymore.”

Topher clucked his tongue, shaking his head. “That explains it. You were always more fun when you were wasted.”

“You said you wanted to settle this, Chris. Lets step outside.” Eliza smiled, her teeth white and sharp in the dim light. “I’ll even give you a ten minute head start.”

“You always did like ‘em scared and running.”
