Title: The Doctor’s Daughter
Universe: That Damn Mpreg
Rating: PG-13
Summary: She’s a Strange.

There was a box of things that were distinctly feminine sitting on the kitchen table, and Zeke had no idea who they belonged to, or why they were there. A quick peek through the contents revealed the kind of things one might find decorating the room of a teenage girl, which Zeke found just a little bit disturbing. “Bob-”

Bobby produced a marker and scrawled Miranda across the side of the box. “Just a little house cleaning,” he said. “She’ll be here for her things this afternoon.”

“But who the hell is Miranda?” Zeke asked, feeling more than a little exasperated with Bobby.

“Strange’s daughter,” Bobby said, closing the box. “Nice lady, if a bit catty. Professional curse breaker.”

“How come I’ve never heard of her before?”

“She’s with the Defenders.”

“The who? You don’t mean…”

Bobby nodded, producing a candy bar from out of nowhere.

“That is just… too good…” Zeke snickered.

“Be nice, or she might turn you into a toad. And I won’t be here to stop her.”

There was something in Bobby’s tone that pinged Zeke’s radar. “Bob…?”

Bobby smile innocently, a look utterly that failed to throw Zeke off. “Yes, Ezekiel?”

“Who is she? To you?”

“Nobody.”

“You’re lying.”

“It’s not important.”

“Bob.”

“She’s my ex.”

“You’re not leaving me alone with one of your exes, Bob. That’s just mean, even if you did zap her.”

“Well…. You see, the thing is, I didn’t zap Miranda.”

The woman in the kitchen was tall and lean, with the build of a dancer. She wore slacks and a navy blue sweater, and her hair hung around her head like a black cloud. She had the kind of face that could only properly be described as ‘proud’-a patrician nose, sharp cheekbones, heavy lidded eyes, and a thin mouth. She offered Zeke a smile that didn’t even come close to her eyes, and did nothing to soften her appearance. “You must be the Starsmore boy I’ve been hearing about. I’m Miranda Strange.”

“Ezekiel,” Zeke said, offering Miranda his hand. She ignored it, sweeping over to the box of her things, while Zeke picked up the distinct whiff of her disdain. He bit back on a sigh and wondered if he really was doomed to be the social pariah of the super-hero set.

“I notice that Bobby is decidedly absent,” Miranda mused, inspecting the box without touching it. “Typical. He never did learn how to deal with his exes.”
