The evil looking furry thing sat on Brin’s chest and licked the fur on his cheek. Brin grabbed the little beast by the scruff and lifted it off, holding it at eye level.
The kitten was not impressed.
“How the hell did you get in here?” he growled. The little beast mewled and batted at his hair.
Clearly, there would be no answer from that quarter. With another growl, Brin put the kitten down and got dressed. It pounced on his feet and tried to bite his ankles through his pelt. Brin scooped the kitten up again and loped off to the command center. “Brainy--”
The feral Legionnaire didn’t have time to complete his complained before Phantom Girl descended on him. “You found him! Come’re, baby!” she cooed, snatching the kitten from Brin’s hands. “Mommy missed her little snoogums, yes she did!”
Brin blinked and took a step back. “That thing belongs to you?”
Phantom Girl sniffed disdainfully. “He’s not a thing. His name is Death from Above and he’s the sweetest little kitten in the whole universe.”
“Whatever. Just keep it away from me,” Brin growled, stalking out.
The grin on Phantom Girl’s face as she stroked her cat would have made his hair stand on end, if he had seen it.
