Summary: Of all the things he’s lost, he misses his friends the most.
Author's Notes: Spoilers for recent issues of New X-Men.
They’d learned about Illyana Rasputin in class. The surviving members of the original New Mutants had come in and talked about her, and the other friends and teammates they had lost, in an effort to drive home the fact that they weren’t immortal (except maybe Jean Grey). The way the old New Mutants had talked about her made Victor sure that the thing torturing Megan wasn’t Illyana Rasputin.
At least, not their Illyana Rasputin.
Megan’s screams rose higher and higher while Blindfold talked until Victor was sure her voice would give out soon, but what he was really hearing where the screams of Sarah and Andrea as they died on that bus.
He hadn’t actually heard them scream, but in his nightmares, he could hear them calling to him. Nobody could save them, just like nobody could save Megan now.
But that couldn’t be true. He was right there.
He had to do something.
He wasn’t going to lose any more friends.
