“I’ll get us a room tonight,” Amadeus promised, rubbing the back of Victor’s neck. The mutant sneezed and scrabbled for a tissue.
It had been very romantic at first, sleeping outside in each other’s arms. Victor always cuddled close, since he didn’t retain body heat very well. Then Victor had gotten sick. It wasn’t anything major, really, but even a cold could be really bad when you didn’t have a place to go and recover. And colds could get worse.
“I love you,” he mumbled against Victor’s shoulder.
Victor tried to say something, but ended up coughing instead.
