“We are in so much trouble,” Billy said glumly. “Mom and Dad are gonna freak.”

“It’s not that bad,” Tommy retorted. “We saved the day.”

“We wrecked the cathedral, and Kate saved the day.”

“And looked damn hot while doing it,” Tommy agreed. “Anyway, Mom and Dad have done way more damage during a fight. AND we got to see Eli get schooled by Kate.”

“The Daily Bugle is gonna rip us apart,” Billy moaned. “Did you see Farrell out in the crowd? She saw everything.”

Teddy and Eli said nothing. Eli’s silence was sullen as he brooded over the events at the church, and the fact that he was, indeed, ‘schooled’ by a girl. Teddy’s silence was more thoughtful as he stared at his hands and thought about what he had almost done to the man who had tried to shoot Billy. Maybe he was getting too attached. It wasn’t like they were anything but friends.

“They’re waiting for us,” Billy noted, bringing them down in the front yard. The Scarlet Witch and the Vision were standing on the front porch, both silent as they watched the teenagers. “We are so doomed.”

Teddy was in the middle of his debriefing when the ground shook. [Stay here,] the Vision ordered, phasing through the wall and leaving the shape shifter behind. Teddy was torn between his curiosity and the knowledge that he was already in trouble and disobeying the Vision would probably make things worse.

His internal debate was cut off by Billy throwing open the door and grabbing Teddy’s arm. “It’s Cassie!” he said.

Teddy blinked, allowing himself to be hauled about by the spell caster. “What? What about her?”

“She grew!” Billy said. “She came here with Kate and she started arguing with Cap and her dad and she just started growing and she fainted!”

“Seriously?”

“Seriously. Cassie’s mom is gonna freak. She hates superheroes.”

“It’s not that bad, is it?” Teddy asked.

“Tommy and I are forbidden from visiting Cassie at her mom’s. One time, Tommy went there with Cassie’s backpack, and she threatened to take a restraining order out on him.”

“Jeez…”

“Yeah.”

“You okay? From earlier, I mean?”

“What? Oh. Yeah, but Mom’s having a bit of a freak out. Thanks for the save, by the way.”

“No problem,” Teddy said, increasingly aware of Billy’s hand on his arm, and the fact that they had stopped walking. “Um. Billy?”

“Don’t go leaping in front of guys with guns again, okay?”

“Sure, Billy. Whatever you want.”

Teddy might have said something else to break the awkward silence between them, but suddenly Billy was kissing him. Before Teddy had the time to react, the dark haired spell caster pulled away, eyes wide, as if he was only just realizing what he had done. And before Teddy could do something like reassure him that it was alright, or kiss him back, Billy teleported away and left behind only the stench of ozone and a tingle on Teddy’s lips.

“Oh.”
