A post, in small manageable bites.

Well,

it has been a while since I posted and what with the succsesfull conclusion of myfirst semester of graduate school, the end of of one year and the beginning of the next there are lots of things to say. Since there is a lot to say I think I will just make a few smaller posts about random things such as academics, life etc... rather than inflict a huge rambling monstrosity on anyone who cares to read.

All in all the second half of 2005 went pretty well. Graduate school is different in a lot of ways from undergrad. For the first time in 8 years I am hanging out with more guys than girls, which is odd but not necessarily bad I guess. I spend a ridiculous amount of time reading (more, I think, than at Oxford) and the work is certainly challenging. It is funny to think that, in essence, this is my job. I get paid to read books and try to understand their arguments etc... it is cool but at times I feel like a slacker, ah well.

Two of my classes were good and one was horrible (see previous posting). I survived my romp through the mine fields of literture (argh, English is crazily theoretical and I dislike it much!) I got my French equivelent done but for some reason I think my teacher has a higher evaluation of my French skills than I do, or perhaps I underestimate my reading abilities? In the end I got good grades, and my advisor gave me a good evaluation too, which is a relief! Plus she liked both my idea for my dissertation (still 5 years off heh) and next years research project (about 2 weeks off). So I guess I am ready for next semester... I have a heavier class load with two latin classes (argh) and the same schedual as all three of the other medieval historians, we are going to get so sick of each other!

anywho, thats some academic stuff

I may fill out one of those long new year mems just to avoid having to write about the last year in a paagraphical format.
