SET ONE
"red wine & sleeping pills" is, of course, from Radiohead's Motion Picture Soundtrack. i fucking love this song.
"i came for my woman; he came with a razorblade" is from A History of Lovers by Iron & Wine. this guy is amazing; very lo-fi and soft-voiced but with lovely odd little turns of phrase and a lot of picturesque violent love stories. (one of his songs is called Teeth in the Grass.) check him out.
THE CLUE: wine & wine.
SET TWO
"now he's a little boy in spain" is from one of my top ten favorite songs, Holland, 1945, by Neutral Milk Hotel. one of the very few albums that truly does improve every single time you listen to it.
"i have built a treehouse!" is Treehouse by I'm From Barcelona! you should know this if you read this blog, people!
THE CLUE: spain & barcelona.
SET THREE
"six am, day after christmas" is that song that was nearly murdered by radio play in 1997, Brick by Ben Folds Five. your opinions be damned, i still think it's awesome.
"my sister was born in a hovel in burgundy" is from a bizarre little song called My Mother Was a Chinese Trapeze Artist from the Decemberists' first EP. it swings carelessly through time and space and is charming because it shows Colin Meloy in the days before his gift for balladeering was totally developed.
THE CLUE: christmas & december.
the winners are
papercrane and
capn_jil, tied at 20 points, with one successful clue guess each! huzzah, you nerds. hold the phone! just as i posted this,
berish posted his answer, beating everyone else out with a whopping 30 points. i am also awarding an additional 3 point bonus for his extremely creative guess about the link between Brick and My Mother was a Chinese Trapeze Artist, and then subsequently figuring out the real clue!
however, i am disappointed that the one person who without a doubt knew all the answers ventured no guesses at all (i'm looking at you,
stillsputtering).
in other news, i am having way too much fun on flickr.
but i am feeling inspired. these girls,
they can really dress.
and
strike a pose.
fucking hell, there was a lot of html in that.
