Things Accomplished: Response for Drabble Meme

If brevity is the soul of wit, then it is pretty clear that I am witless. Corroboration of this fact can be found below (i.e., my ‘drabble’ for capt-facepalm) where I am neither concise nor coherent. My apologies. It wouldn’t be 100 words. Or 221 words. I tried. And then I got impatient. So here is the best ‘drabble’ I can offer you.

Thank you very much for this excellent story!

You have created a real person with your characterisation of Lestrade. I actually feel his frustration in his reluctance to endure Holmes' assistance in order to solve crime. He is a good man and a good policeman, and has had to put his work ahead of personal gain.

Holmes' back-handed compliments are genius, and I like that you do not let Watson off the hook for the uncharitable description of Lestrade he published.

I am more interested in reading a well-told story than anything, and you have certainly done so here. There are great drabble authors out there and I certainly do not want to disparage their works, but for me, drabbling is more a technical skill, or even a gimmick, and I find them harder to do than free-form writing.

So, please do not think you failed with this story because it is not a drabble. It is a truly wonderful and refreshing glimpse into Lestrade's character. Please be encouraged to write again in the future!

(I also urge you to post this at dispatch_box and at violinandwatch, two ( ... )

Whew! I'm glad you liked it! That was the main goal!
Lestrade is a great; I'm glad you selected him. It was nice to add more to his character and think about the personal ramifications of having Holmes and Watson in his life.
It was hard to portray Holmes and Watson with that bit of meanness. To be fair though, in my head, Holmes knows his effect on Lestrade's life (and doesn't care because he thinks it should motivate him to be a better inspector) but hasn't yet collected enough evidence about its increase since Gregson's promotion. Watson doesn't have a clue but, when he figures it out, there will be wrath (and guilt).
Thanks for your advice about posting on the communities. I think I will! :)

Sometimes things just can not be made more succinct.
You did succeed at being that. Like the character Lestrade himself, this shows promise.
Just keep swimming writing... Then cutting it to the core. Write , rinse and Repeat
it is an excercse, not a straightjacket. You did fine.
Jenn, who knows how difficult this can be.

Thank you very much for your kind words. :)
The writing process is very laborious for me. I hope to get better, in time. You're right, I need to keep practicing.
Thanks again! I'm glad you enjoyed this and took the time to give encouragement.
Cheers!
