Dorian was, actually, quite bored.

To the usual passerby, however, it would seem that he was very much the opposite. With a beautiful redhead seated in front of him, bar stool turned so she could lean on his shoulder as she laughed into his neck, it seemed like he had it made. How could any man be bored with THAT right in front of him?

Ah, well. ( Read more... )

Aw, it was a pity she didn’t tell him that. He would have loved to know he made her uncomfortable.

Oh, she WISHED. He wasn’t going to bloody kiss her now. Merlin, no. No. She shouldn’t flatter herself.

… Except, um, he always sort of wanted to. But, er, that wasn’t common knowledge. He never spoke of that.

“Because you’re not anyone special!” Dorian shot back, still glaring furiously. “Fine, fine, maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but it was merely in return to your stupid stunt. You set yourself up, I only gave you what you deserved. I apologize if you’re so embarrassed, that’s just a weakness for me to focus on.

“And please don’t play innocent, you know you do the exact same bloody thing!”

“What the bloody hell are you TALKING about?!” Dorian nearly shrieked, sounding very silly. He wasn’t… together. Usually, he kept his cool. Usually, he was calm. He couldn’t ever remember losing his temper like this and making it so obvious, and over something so stupid!

“Got you?!” he demanded. “What does that even mean, you twit?! What bloody ploy?!”

"Perhaps I need to explain the difference," she said slowly, very condescendingly. "I am a Pureblood," here she paused to point at herself before continuing, "and you are not." Adriana then pointed at him.

"Embarrassed?" she repeated incredulously, letting out a mocking sort of laugh, wanting to strangle him. "Try disgusted. Repulsed. Incensed. At the unfortunate mistake of ever believe that you were worthy of me."

It was rather alarming to see Dorian so flustered; he was normally the one that was actually able to stay calm, whereas Adriana always lost any patience she had remaining.

“Well, I did get you, didn’t I? That tactic has worked in the past…” Dorian's comment is what set her off to slap him, and she remembered all too well exactly what he had said back in the pub.

"What the hell do you think I mean, you son of a bitch!" she shouted, taking the last few steps of space between them to push him, hard. "If your masquerade as a Pureblood hadn't lasted so long, I never would have been so senseless as to shag you."

“Thank you for reminding me,” Dorian said dryly, “I had completely forgotten.” Honestly, this was… getting ridiculous. It still sort of stung to hear her say things like that, but he was used to it by now. That was a really horrible thing to think of, really, that she said it so often it grew to be an old wound, but it was true. Adriana didn’t get the same reaction she used to.

Actually, this was the first time he ever really seemed annoyed by her saying that. The hurt was still very apparent in his eyes, but Dorian hoped the darkness would mask that. He didn’t need Adriana getting something else to attack him about.

“You are absolutely charming, do you know that?” Dorian asked her sarcastically, just wanting to punch her in the face. She could take it, he knew that, it was just... well, he didn’t know. He’d tortured plenty of women before, couldn’t he hit ADRIANA?

Alarming? She had better be careful, one could easily confuse that with worry.

Dorian didn’t see how that comment, of all things, would make her react like this. He’d said much snarkier, more arrogant, more disgusting things, yet that was what made her angriest? He wasn’t expecting that to even MATTER.

At her second attack, Dorian was finished. He stood his ground as she shoved him, merely glaring at her, more than he had the entire night. Once she shut up, he calmly raised his hand and smacked her hard on the face, exactly what she’d done to him.

"Apparently you had," she returned critically, rolling her eyes. "You can play the part just fine, Mr. Grace, but don't expect me to ever treat you the same as a Pureblood."

It was to be expected, really, Dorian not being as bothered by her calling him a Half-blood over and over again. Going there was the ultimate fall-back, when she got angry enough. The worst piece of history for him, and the most satisfying for her. Made it the most blunt and obvious thing to remind Dorian of why she hated him. The little known fact, though, was she at times brought it up to help remind herself of why she hated him.

Dorian had definitely said more snarky and disgusting things, but the worst remarks didn't always leave the worst effects. Adriana was used to the arrogant side.

Then he hit her and... she couldn't decide on what to do.

After a moment, she took a step backwards, almost touching the wall behind her. Face turned off to the side, some of her hair fallen across her face, Adriana hardly moved for several seconds. It was a shock to have Dorian hit her, definitely, but it wasn't why she didn't react right away.

Of course she could take it, but that wasn't the issue. Adriana knew that even though Dorian was indeed a half-blood, she had a lot of respect towards him -- but the blood status of the world was still front and center in her mind (followed not far from pride). He shouldn't be allowed to touch her.

"I didn't think you had it in you," she drawled slowly, turning back to look at Dorian, adjusting her jaw carefully while she drew up a smirk on her lips. It didn't matter that her cheek stung; she wasn't going to let that show; Adriana refused to give him any sort of reaction other than this. Her gaze drifted off towards the ground and then the pub, settling herself back to lean more against the wall, and found herself with, surprisingly, nothing to say.

“Then don’t expect me to treat you as someone special,” Dorian returned defensively, wishing she’d just drop the Pureblood thing. He knew he wasn’t Pureblood, he knew that he was less than her. Still, though Dorian thought he deserved some amount of respect. He was a bloody sodding death Eater in spite of his birth. That meant something. At least, it meant something to him.

Dorian didn’t see why she needed to remind herself. He thought she was pretty well convinced of her hatred towards him. She never let him forget it, at least.

Dorian stood completely still after he hit her, merely staring at Adriana without emotion. His eyes looked colder than ever- unfeeling and hard. Though her silence sort of worried him, he didn’t say anything. Dorian just continued to look on with disinterest.

“Perhaps I’m made of more than you thought,” he replied coolly.

With that, Dorian turned around, walking away from her. His hands were shoved into his pockets, collar flapping in the slight breeze as he strode down the street.

Dorian could keep wishing for that -- she still wouldn't drop it.

She eyed him closely as he walked away, only giving him two seconds of silence.

"So, that's all it takes to satisfy you?" she called after him, a taunting hint to her voice. "You drag me out here for an explanation, and then you're fine once you take a swipe at me?"

Rolling her eyes inwardly, Adriana straightened herself up off the wall, pulling her wand out simultaneously as she cleared her throat. With a flick of her wand, a flash of a blue line flew out of her wand, illuminating the dim street momentarily as she shot a hurling hex at Dorian.

"Who would have thought you liked it so rough," she mused with a dark chuckle as she walked to meet up where Dorian now was, leaning over just slightly to get a better look at him.

"Yeah," she said upon reaching him, stopping awfully close to stepping onto his fingers. Wand pointing at him casually, Adriana flashed him a mock smile, and she pursed her lips down at him, making a 'tut tut' sound with her tongue. "I'm disappointed if you think I'd be okay with any of that." Cocking her head to the side, she took a few paces back from Dorian, and shot a lighter Crucio at him, purposely only making it a quick zap.

Dorian didn’t answer, though he had plenty of things he could have replied with. He merely looked quickly down at the ground, at his shoes, then looked back up, continuing on.

… Ah, he knew that couldn’t last.

The hex took him by surprise, though he didn’t scream or anything like that. Dorian fell to the ground, face slamming against the dirt, groaning at the thought of his clothes getting all… unclean.

He rolled over onto his back, merely lying there, knowing it was silly to bother to get up. She’d just knock him down again and he’d rather spare himself the pain and embarrassment over getting bested once more.

He did, however, scream when Adriana shot a Crucio at him. Dorian writhed on the ground for a moment, hands clenched into fists, shaking near his head as he convulsed. It wasn’t strong, sure, but it was still painful as hell. He’d been through much worse, yes, but he hadn’t been expecting that from her. It caught him off guard again.

He pursed his lips when it was all over, staring at the sky part her head, still not moving. He wouldn’t look her in the eyes, he’d ignore her completely. Let her do whatever the hell she wanted to him, he’d get Adriana back soon enough.

Adriana cringed in the slightest at the sound Dorian made as he hit the ground. Sweet satisfaction, indeed. Ah, yes, knowing that he fell onto the damp and dirty-ish street was also a bonus.

Adriana certainly wasn't daft enough to not know Dorian would eventually get her back for anything she did, but none of that ever mattered to her. Pfft, it was never about being afraid of karma, to her! This was sweet, cold, and sour revenge.

Oh, and of course, it was about her ego.

The Cruciatus curse was quickly becoming her favourite to use, finding she managed to get hold on it very quickly. She berated herself for making the last-second choice not to use a full-powered one, knowing Dorian could endure it, knowing he bloody well DESERVED it -- but she resisted.

Adriana loved this particular spell because of how deeply-rooted the magic could affect whomever it was being used on, and the pain it caused was just thrilling to see while torturing someone. Casting it on Dorian, however, was proving to be a bit different. Adriana stood there, wand in hand, getting an odd feeling, a mix of pleasure and discomfort. Her face stayed blank, hiding the surprise in the amount of pain he was showing. She hadn't even used a full one, and he still reacted so... severely.

Not that it really mattered. The ponce deserved it, anyway.

She shoved the thoughts of discomfort away, and focused on the loves ones of pleasure in getting Dorian back.

"Nothing to say, Mr. Grace?" she questioned after a few moments passed, swallowing hard and taking a tiny step forward. Adriana had left Dorian his wand, after all, she half-expected him to try and stop her. "Nothing at all? No snark-filled comment for me? No witty remark?"

A cringe? He would have loved to see that, he really would have. Sure, he’d probably interpret it to mean something entirely different, but still. She was always so… together, especially when she was in control of him. To see the robot show such a small trace of emotion? It’d be surprising.

Discomfort? Adriana seemed to be in her element with this, why would she feel uncomfortable? It was just Dorian, after all, and she was right, he could take it. It was stronger than either had expected, yes, but he could still handle himself.

Dorian continued to shiver a bit, an effect left over from the curse. He felt nauseas, like his stomach was tied up at the top of his ribcage, like she’d kicked him right in the middle of his belly. He locked his jaw, convincing his body to regain control, though everything still screamed with pain.

Finally, he replied with a shaky, “I didn’t think you had it in you.” He wasn’t going to play into her, he wasn’t going to reach for his wand yet. There was time for that, after all.

Plus… it bloody hurt.

Hang on... A robot? She would not be pleased to hear that he thought of her as a bloody robot, thank you VERY much! Adriana was capable of emotion, however rare it was that she showed it in front of other people.

She had never casted a Cruciatus on him before, and perhaps a part of her never thought she would. Other than that, she had no effing clue why she felt something more than pleasure over cursing Dorian. Adriana was accustomed to only getting satisfaction, compensation for whether it was for her job or something more personal, such as this case.

She simply cracked an amused smile when Dorian finally spoke, kneeling down carefully to look at him closer. "You'd be surprised, then, what I'm capable of when pushed far enough," she said calmly, idly running her wand up one side of his jacket to the underside of a lapel that had popped up, pushing it back down properly. It was oddly gentle movements, and then she just as briskly switched back to vengeful.

"For the record, though, I never wanted to end up here." Standing back up straight with a low sigh, she gave a quick glance down either side of the mostly-deserted street. "You know me better than that; you brought this upon yourself."

Yes, a robot. It was something he would say just to annoy her, really. He knew she had feeling, and he understood needing to hide them, but HONEST TO MERLIN! A bloody bit of real-emotion would be nice to see sometimes. Like that cringe. He wished he wasn’t writhing in pain on the ground, he would have liked to catch that.

Dorian never really expected her to use it on him, either. Perhaps that was arrogance, perhaps that was his silly delusion that he still meant something to her. Even though… well, he knew she hated him, he did. Part of him just refused to accept that. But he would be surprised to hear she wasn’t entirely pleased with this. He wouldn’t have suspected anything less.

Dorian stiffened when she leaned down close to him, though he still didn’t move. He let her touch him, let her touch his jacket, feeling incredibly uneasy about her sudden gentleness. He didn’t know if she was… serious, or… or messing with him, or… well, just insane. He had no idea. He just knew he wasn’t going to move.

“And what’s here, exactly?” Dorian groaned, feeling like he wanted to vomit whenever he opened his mouth.

Adriana would beg to differ on that 'no emotion' front! She showed emotion, dammit! She laughed at him, taunted him, used to snog him, for Merlin's sake - was that not showing something more than a bloody robot could? Pfft. She was not a robot.

She seemed to phase out for those moments as she ran her wand on Dorian's jacket, not entirely sure what it was she was doing. First, she was just touching him for fun as it was presumably the last thing he wanted her doing to him, and then she just... continued and found herself wanting to fix his collar. Adriana didn't worry on it; she snapped herself back in time.

Her smirk widened, upon Dorian's question, turning to look back down at him. Adriana was quite pleased with the groan in his voice. "That would be you... sprawled on the street, and in a severe amount of pain." Directing her wand down at his chest to emphasise her words, her eyesbrows furrowed. "Or did you have some other idea in mind?"

Well pft, most of that didn’t even COUNT.

Not in his mind, at least.

Dorian wasn’t sure what she was doing, either. It made him uncomfortable, actually, especially once he was certain there was no surprise attack coming. She… um, well, she wasn’t really the gentle type, especially not with him. Especially that collar thing. That was… sweet. Definitely not fitting, which made Dorian think she really was a nutter.

Dorian groaned again, sort of cringing and bracing himself for another Crucio as she stuck her want to his chest. He was surprising himself, really, how he was letting all of this get to him, how he was letting it show.

Maybe she really HAD won?

He didn’t answer. He was just waiting for what she was planning to do to him next.

It didn't count? What would he like her to do, then, dance around him? Sing him a melody? Express her heart's deepest desires? One: Fat chance. Two: Adriana couldn't recall him showing that much emotion, either.

That move was sweet? Sweet? Oh, hell, no, Adriana did not do sweet!

And now Dorian was feeling uncomfortable? What the heck was in the air, today!? Adriana wasn't as impressed with his willingness to show just how much in pain he was. He was practically acting defeated already, and that was far from the Dorian Grace she had grown to loathe.

...

He wasn't even going to try and get her back? Try for his wand? Slip in some snide remarks about how she'd never win, anyway?

Going back to a comment back in the pub -- Dorian was correct with why they bickered so much -- they were equals in that department. It made the irritation worth it; it was, in a freaky way, FUN to snark with him. They matched each others' intensity so well, the constant back and forth game they always seemed to end up playing, whether they started out friendly or not.

But this, this right here, was no longer fun.

So, she dropped her wand hand back towards her with a roll of her eyes.

"Get up," she stated, voice in a monotone. When Dorian still didn't move, she extended her free hand slowly towards him, in a sign that she was willing to help him up.

Yes, dancing and singing would have been nice. Not really to prove she wasn’t a robot, just because it would make his life to see her do such a thing. That would be absolutely incredible.

No, it really was. Well, almost sweet. It was really just creepy and unsettling, coming from her. Dorian wasn’t even going to begin to try and understand where that all was coming from, he had no idea where to start.

She was just crazy, really.

Well, hey, this was one way of making her angry! Dorian found it incredibly funny that by doing NOTHING, he was still able to infuriate her this much. That was something to be proud of, he thought. He could lie here for a bit longer, piss her off some more, but then he thought about the dirt and his jacket and… no, no, he could annoy her standing up just as easily.

“I’m fine,” he said defiantly, groaning just a little as he started to shove himself up. It still hurt and he still felt like shite, but he really was fine. What was more unsettling was the fact that Adriana offered him her hand. That was…

… only more proof she was a robot.

Dorian finally sat up, right next to her legs. He moved as if to stand, but raised his arm instead, hitting the back of Adriana’s knees forcefully, knocking them out.

HA. Round two, begin.

adriana_winters January 9 2008, 04:37:17 UTC
Well, she could understand it being unsettling coming from her. It wasn't something she did often in his presence, though her weakest and most genuine moments were with him, too.

She gasped almost inaudibly when she felt Dorian's hand move to her leg, about ready to hex him if he was going to try some move on her. Thankfully, though, that's not what he was doing. Not that what he WAS doing was any better.

The force of his arm at her legs made her trip, and her knees buckled, sending her backwards onto the street, onto her ass, wand dropping from her grip in the haste to put both hands behind her to break her fall. Her eyes narrowed at Dorian, sending him a threatening glare.

"If you want me to Crucio you again, all you have to do is ask!" she muttered, jaw clenching tightly as she pulled herself up to a full sit, and then forward some more. Putting both hands onto Dorian's chest roughly, she shoved him as fast as she could onto his back once again, leaning as much of her weight as she could on him. Adriana really didn't want to end up in this position, but she sacrificed that for the knowledge that pushing on his chest would hurt like hell after that first Crucio.

"Do you have some twisted fantasy of sleeping in the middle of the street that you'd like to fulfill? Because, it seems to me as though you can't stop."
