c'mon october 10

i realized i forgot to post about my last Dr. appointment...probably because it was unremarkable aside from actually being able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler this time. the baby was also kicking or punching the doppler, the noise of which was considerably louder than the heartbeat, and scared the crap out of the nurse the first time, as she had the speaker right up to her ear listening for the heartbeat. they scheduled my "big" ultrasound, the detailed anatomy one where hopefully we'll get to find out the baby's gender, for october 10. i can't freaking wait. i am just now starting to feel little slithery movements that i know are the baby, and i'm starting to get massive round ligament pain from the uterus and baby growing so fast now. i'm at the point where the uterus is up above the pelvic bone but not big enough to rest on top of it, if that makes sense, so it's just sort of free-floating and when i bend certain ways, especially lying on my side, i get these stabbing pains that are ligaments stretching. though uncomfortable, this is far and away preferable to the non-stop nausea party that was going on up until a few weeks ago.

now that i've got my energy back, i've been totally nesting and d has come right along with me on my home-improvement kick. i cleaned and organized our bedroom, and put all the clothes that i'm not going to be able to wear again until after the baby is born into giant storage bins. d moved the tv cart into the living room to be used as a bookcase/plant stand, and our tall dresser into a different corner of the bedroom (with the tv on top of it) and now there's enough space in our bedroom for a crib and a small dresser...but we haven't found anything reasonably priced yet, which is a total bummer. i refuse to spend upwards of $400 on a freaking crib. d also hung up the framed photos veganpunk gave us, and one of our giant wedding photos, in the dining room against the red wall and it looks freaking awesome. d did a lot of work in the basement storage area to make room for the giant storage tubs full of clothes that need to go in there, and hopefully we'll clean up the family room area of the basement tonight.
i also organized my knitting stuff, the bookcase in the living room, and the catch-all tops of cabinets in the living and dining rooms. tonight i'm planning to superclean the bathroom and go through the medicine cabinet and under the sink to throw away everything possible, and if i can get to it i'm going to start organizing the big bookcases in the basement as well, which have been totally chaotic since we moved in last year.

k turns 8 on wednesday! d's parents are coming from grand rapids on tuesday night to celebrate her birthday with us, as she'll be with her mom this year on her actual birthday. this is another reason i'm glad we're supercleaning the house...my MIL keeps a scary clean house. one year i woke up at her house before 7am on christmas morning to use the bathroom and found her scrubbing the toilet, loads of laundry going, already showered and dressed. let me repeat, scrubbing the toilet before 7am christmas morning. i feel slightly guilty when they come over, because i don't keep as clean a house as she does...last time she was visiting for a few days, she reorganized my linen closet and dusted our basement. let me repeat, dusted the basement. i would LOVE to have a house like hers, but i seriously don't have the time and energy to devote to it. i am lazy and would rather watch LOST or be online than aggravate my allergies by dusting. the only exception to my hatred of housework is laundry- i LOVE doing laundry. folding warm, clean-smelling clothes into orderly piles really appeals to me.

k is having a friend sleep over this coming weekend, it will be her first sleepover! we've known her friend samantha since before they were in kindergarten, and she's a sweet, well-behaved girl, so it should be easy and fun for all involved. except for the fact that when they arranged this, samantha's mom told d she was dropping samantha off at our house at 11am saturday morning...who starts a sleepover at 11am??? back when i was that age, you usually came over at dinner time or even right after dinner for a sleepover. we'll just have to find something to entertain them with for like 12 hours OMG.

today is talk like a pirate day, and i missed it last year, so, um, avast ye scurvy dogs. perhaps i'll watch pirates of the caribbean tonight in honor.

baby benzin
