rien de faire

This week, after the festival, is kind of a down week.

Monday was Pentecost so everything pretty much shut down. I visited with my host family a bit.
Tuesday I went to a missions clinique in hopes of volunteering and giving out vaccinations...but they couldn't take anymore volunteers. They already had a few and the problem is the need for translators and such so it takes more work to have a volunteer than to not. and the work i could be doing they pay a senegalese person to do and i'm okay with that =) SO i left the clinic and met up with missionary couple who had referred me to the clinic. We talked for a long while and ate and it was pretty interesting hearing about missionary stuff and some of their experiences in other countries.
Yesterday, wednesday, I went downtown with a friend of mine just to accompany her and then i got a cell phone finally. SO i'm reachable! was supposed to go to a concert last night but it wasn't meant to be so i had a long chat with my friend djibril (juhbreel) (he's the long time boyfriend of one of my really good american friends)
anyways, today i got the cell phone working and i went walking with Ami (friend who lives in my house)
Nothing much has happened this week...like I said, down time.

there's so much construction going on everywhere here. the presidential elections were a couple of months ago and the senegalese elected (supposedly) the same guy (some say it was rigged) ...he's like 90 seriously. very old. abdoulaye wade. arguably not a good president and lots of folk don't like him b/c they say he does things for tourists more than his own people...which makes sense. tons of new roads in dakar are being built and new round points (circle things in the middle of the road....why do i forget the english word for it?? there's one on old taylor) anywho. lots of construction=lots of traffic

**one thing i learned that is of great interest to me today. the senegalese muslims believe that what you do before you get married doesn't matter. once you are married, you are forgiven of everything. so it's okay to drink and smoke and do whatev...until you have a wife. then it stops. and you're okay.
