Sep 08, 2014 20:27

It is start of new school year which means a lot of expenses for Yamada family. It is also final year for Yamada's Special class and they need to list wishes for college. Both Mimura and Kyoko-sensei note how Yamada wrote "employment". She has her arms up in the air in Principals' office and he calmly tells her he is always curious which flower will become which fruit. She barks at him talking about agriculture before realizing it is Principle she is talking to and apologizes. He smiles and suggests fertilizer. Not a moment too soon, Mimura knocks on the door. As all of them sit(Kyoko-sensei totally confused, Mimura puzzled), Principal scatters cards on table(face down) and asks each of them to pick one. Asking Mimura if he likes games, Principal explains that they will play a game in which one of them will get a chance to make Yamada go to college on his will. Kyoko-sensei refuses to do it because it is not right but Mimura's eyes sparkle as he smiles that it sounds interesting. He gently puts his card down saying the game has started and elegantly leaves the room. Principal turns Mimura's card over to reveal an ace. Wow! Kyoko-sensei draw Joker. Lol. I wonder what Principal got? Probably a king. It would fit right. As Mimura struts trough hall with huge grin on his face he bumps on Gym teacher and greets him like a Juushoku. HA!
School ends for the day, Mimura puts his plan in motion by asking Yamada for his plans after. Why? Oh, nothing. He just wanted to, yunno, pass by Jounen University and crash at Nangahara Researcher office cause all that talking about improving veggies got him curious. Of course since Yamada is sooo busy, whatever vegetables Mimura gets, since there is huuuge field, he will bring to Yamada's place. Hook, meet Yamada cause he totally falls for Mimura's trap. On the other side of the room, Sugiura is knee-deep in his feelings for Yamada and looks at him like he is glowing angel. Pffft! Masami and Takako laugh at Sugiura's expression till Masami outs that Sugiura fell for Yamada. Takako's jaw hits the floor. They both watch in amusement, Sugiura dancing trough room lost in his emotions until he doesn't notice door. Lol!
At Jounan, Yamada is like kid in a candy store while Mimura and Nagahara talk. Mimura asks all the right questions and trough Yamada's brain ring things like: producing fruit, as much they want, on huge land, for free. Nagahara is working on grapes and brings different types for Yamada to taste. Of course, Yamada is thrilled and Mimura is grinning, pretty sure he has him where he wants. Only to have Yamada wipe that grin off his face telling that he is more into eating anyway. Mimura's expression... Buahahaha! Since Yamada has to go home, Nagahara hands him some thesis to read if he has time and invites him to came anytime. With Yamada gone, Nagahara reveals that he knows from Principal what the deal is and finds it all interesting. Mimura smiles. Another ally at his side.
Sugiura walks trough streets on cloud nine till girls passing by call him disgusting. He fixes his face quickly. And next moment he sees Yamada with bunch of kids in poor clothes coming from grocery store. Rubbing eyes doesn't help, that is Yamada all right! That night, Yamada stays late to read thesis he got from Nagahara Researcher and hears loud crash in front of house. It stirs Mom wake as well and as they wonder in fear if it may be burglar, Mom adorably lights up. Mom: Kazuo-san. It is so cute how she has sixth sense for him. So when Yamada opens door his father is indeed there.
Next morning, breakfast is really merry. Dad says he is there to bring picture to his friend and kids are just too happy to have him there. In school, Sugiura shares what he saw but is soon accosted by bunch of girls not inclined to believe him. Masami calls him on being so infatuated that he imagines Yamada everywhere. Takako just stands there in panic so when Mimura comes in, her face practically begs him to salvage situation. He quickly gets updated on situation when Sugiura asks him what he has to say on Yamada being poor. Mimura's lightbulb turns on and he calmly asks if they just figured that out now. Collective gasp! He rattles off how Yamada lives with family of 8, in wooden barrack, does part-time jobs regularly, eats veggies from his small garden(that he takes care of) and has family commands like "Don't borrow money"... Whole class giggles thinking he is joking and he silently nods to Takako who looks pretty grateful(if she was not already in love she might have fallen for him). Yamada enters and lights the room with his bright smile making every girl in room faint. Except Takako. But with addition of Sugiura. Hee! Everyone is reassured, Yamada doesn't look like someone poor. Still, Sugiura can't quite shake off that picture... When Yamada asks what happened, Mimura in his usual calm manner brushes it aside.
Mimura again lures Yamada to Jounen University and while Yamada has fun, Mimura tries to broach attending this University. But Yamada is too absorbed to listen. Nagahara comes apologizing for being late and Yamada thanks him for thesis. Returning papers he says it was quite interesting to read. Nagahara is pleased to hear it getting lost in talk about it... but backtracks realizing Yamada red it in one day! Yamada adds that he wrote report of his own about it and Nagahara wants to take a look. No, problem, Yamada hands it since at his house kids will use it to play. He excuses himself though Nagahara wants to show them plantations, whispering to Mimura that Dad came so he has to do part time jobs again. Nagahara flips trough pages and seriously notes on losing great potential. He can't leave it to Torii-chan(Kyoko-sensei). As if she heard him, Kyoko-sensei starts apologizing to air and poor Gym teacher is totally confused.
Yamada Mom and Dad go to meet Dads' friend, Ume-chan, whom he brought a picture. She is cute, little rich lady and really happy to see them and claims that Dad brought back her youth. As soon as she is handed picture, she starts to unwrap it and is really happy with sea wiev from thropical village. She shows Mom other pictures, all sea wievs from diferent locations. They marvel at its beauty.
Sugiura follows Yamada but loses him. He turns frustrated and finally sees Yamada dressed as kitchen helper trowing garbage. Dum-dum-duuuum! Mom and Dad happily chat with Ume-chan, eat cakes and sip tea. She wants to move in her villa in Dhobai since Dads' pictures made her want to live there. Alas, leaving her current house empty is dangerous, so, if SOMEONE *nod, nod* would live there she would be sooo happy. Dad blinks. She clarifies: she wants Yamada family to live in her house. Eeee~?! Mom and Dad gratefully accept. That night they deliver happy news to kids who are all thrilled, except for Yamada. He finds it suspicous and Dad tells him to make decision himself. He took care of family so he will know what is best.
Next day, Sugiura shares what he saw: Yamada worked in ramen store! Girls call him liar and Takako musters courage to share her thoughts: Yamada, as a prince, decided to understand better how ordinary people live and took part-time job. She is all happy with being able to help Yamada till all girls look at her saying that can't possibly be truth and she pouts for herself that she believed in it. Guys from class speculate that his Dad got bankrupt and girls bark at them but soon everyone gang on Sugiura saying he looks down on Yamada. He yells denial, after all, he likes Yamada!! Oh, honey, you just confessed in front of whole class! Our "prince" is at the mean time with Mimura, sharing his confusion. He is happy that everyone is happy and knows house is good thing, but it makes him uneasy to get it just like that. Will everyone be happy with house handed like that? Mimura asks him one thing: What is the most important thing for Yamada? Question stays with him even till night when he folds clothes and watches his siblings draw house they will live in. He takes a look around and goes out to look at garden. His father joins him but we don't hear their conversation.
In school, wherever Takako goes she hears people talking about Yamada and his "fallen prince" status. Stories go from believeable to really ridiculous like that his father went bancrupt, he is washing things in river, living in box with 20siblings, using ink instead shampoo and what not. It all sounds like SF but people believe in it. Kyoko-sensei hears of it from Gym teacher and rushes off leaving poor guy to collect her things on ground. Girls confront Sugiura about all the fuss. They order him to own responsibility for tarnishing their bright prince with his lies. He finally complies to go to Yamadas' house and confirm it once and for all. Oy! But no one knows where he lives. Takako and Kyoko-sensei have been evesdroping and run off to do something about it. Takako finds Mimura to ask him to help with rumors and Kyoko-sensei asks Principal to do something to hide Yamada's status. But guys see in diferently...
Mimura: But he is not even trying to hide it.
Principal: Even if it is exposed, who will have problem with it?
Both girls are speechless. Mimura asks if Takako started hating Yamada when she found out about him being poor. She didn't so Mimura sees no problem. Principal tells Kyoko-sensei that everyone finding out will not afect Yamada. He compares Yamada to radish, strong and humble, suprising everyone with just hard work. Principal looks forward to seeing what it will happen.
With end of classes, Yamada takes his stuff and walks out not noticing whole class, led by Sugiura, following him. Mimura and Takako are last, him thinking they will withess something interesting and her looking pretty worried. Luckily, Yamada doesn't see anything and just walks. He finally stops in front of a house and warily looks at it. Everyone else gasp. It is a Ume-chan's house and doors open to let Yamada in. As soon as he is out of sight, other guys fawn at establishment confirming that Yamada actually is rich. Mimura and Takako join the group. Their expressions change when Masami informs them of Yamada living in there. Takako is all confused and asks Mimura for explenation. His expression turns from shocked to pained as he muses that house is indeed Yamadas' new home lended by family friend. She brakes into this great smile while Mimura looks like someone made him eat box of lime.
As he enters house, Yamada looks uncomfortable. More so when greeted with two rows of servants bowing at "Young Master Taro". At least his family is enjoying themselves. Mom and Dad show up in new clothes, present from Ume-chan to all family, and kids are dying to play in this big house. Mimura looks at house with disappointment. Takako realizes he must have known about all of this and that is why it didn't bother him. He looks really sad as he denies it and turns to go. She doesn't think much of it and giggles at her prince finally becoming legit. Yamada is shown to his room and it is bigger than his whole old house. It is sad how he looks bed like it is alien. Also how alone and unhappy he seems. He broods as Mimuras' question rings in his head. On the other hand, Mimura is in front of old Yamadas' house and thinks of Yamadas' words, if everyone will be happy with getting house just like that...

It is so funny how in Yamadas' situation, truth sounds more unbelievable than lies. Also, it is really endearing how Takako worries for Yamada, not just for his status but as we already saw, she doesn't want him to get hurt and rejected.
I was puzzled at Mimuras' reaction at the end. If he knew Yamada had option to live other place why he felt betrayed by his choice? He could have guessed Yamada will accept moving out for kids, but did he hoped Yamada will choose to stay?
