Yamada Taro Monogatari episode 5
It is announced who are top scoring students in school and of course they are Yamada and Mimura(i was this close of writing Nino and Sho). Masami is impressed as usual and wonders when they manage to study cause they doesn't look like they try(i am more impressed that Sugiura is at 3rd place). Takako imagines Yamada with glasses reading while taking care of 2 kids in "poor" clothes. Just then top two pass by and while Mimura passes by Yamada lingers for a moment. Masami uses this to drag Takako to chat with him but Takako rans away when her greets her.
Later Yamada is siting with Kyoko-Sensei and she asks him to explain what he wrote on "future course"sheet. His wish is to seek employment over going to university. When asked for reason he honestly tells her his family is poor. She laughs it off as a joke and though he tries to explain it is truth she thinks he doesn't trust her. But he really has no time to think much about it cause at home all kids gather asking for him to do something. He suggests making "to do" list and it is pretty big. When Mimura comes to speak with Kyoko-Sensei about his future plans he doesn't have any and she is relieved to hear he might go to University ignoring his obvious disinterest in subject. She suggests University saying a lot of kids from Ichinomiya go there and he doesn't even stop to think about it saying he will go. She asks if he can talk with Yamada about going too still not believing in "my family is poor" excuse. Mimura suggests for her to go to house visit to see herself, all with his usual mischievous smile.
Takako and Masami are sitting in pastry shop and talking about future course. Masami also has no idea where to go but still has 3 private tutors. Takako is so happy that summer arrived but Masami points that they both have no boyfriends. Right on the cue Sugiura runs to them though Masami tries to hide herself. Heh. They have chores to do as class representatives and he is not willing to do them alone so Masami apologizes before they run off bickering. Takako feels left out.
Kyoko-Sensei musters courage to go to Yamada house and gets all confused when greeted by bunch of kids. They all stare wide-eyed at her till she apologizes for not bringing presents. Haha. She takes a looks and sees "to do" list. Yamada Mom politely asks for her purpose and Kyoko-Sensei shyly reveals it is about advancement to University but Yamada again tells her his family has nothing to gain from going to University. She argues that there is scholarship but Yamada knows that must be returned after.
Yamada: Don't borrow money...
Kids: ...we can't return it!!
He clarifies that it is Yamada family rule. With it obviously it is end of conversation and Yamada presents cute bag to Itsuko he himself sewed. Kids cheer as he marks first task finished. Kyoko-sensei runs off to complain to Principal about being left in the dark about Yamada's family situation and that he doesn't want to go to college. President sees it other way: maybe Yamada doesn't see good things about going to college. It is up to Sensei to show him path and President looks forward to it. Before she leaves he gives her bit of info on Yamada being interested in Nagahara Researcher's work. She shivers remembering their earlier encounters.
Mimura and Yamada are talking about future and Mimura wants to continue with kadou. He doesn't really need college for that. When asked Yamada reveals he is indeed interested in bio-technology but his family is at the top of his priorities at the moment. Mimura looks straight at Takako, who is standing like bunch of other girls and absorbing pretty of the two. It causes for her to flinch and knock down trash can. She hurries away wondering why it felt like Mimura was "reading" her.
Kyoko-sensei is putting on make-up telling herself that she doesn't want to go but it is for the sake of Yamada. Keep telling that to yourself darling! Gym teacher creeps behind asking if she was going on a date but she fiercely denies making him laugh in relief. But that confuses her as she realize there is no need to put so much make-up just to go and talk... I'd call it warrior paint but in your case it is little bit different.
Yamada rushes after class and locks eyes with Takako but she looks to the side making him uneasy. Masami can't go with Takako cause of chores with Sugiura again. Mimura doesn't miss all this and smiles deviously. Not sure what he is up to but i know i will like it! As Takako is walking home he pulls his car and asks "his lady" to drive her home. It totally confuses her but she has no reason to refuse. More so when Butler opens her door and Mimura casts dazzling smile her way. Who wouldn't enter?! Once inside, she marvels at rich people life style and straight out asks if her and Mimura could ever date! With smile he tells her no, there is not a slightest chance they could. She sighs at her tama no koshi path being bumpy road and Mimura asks about it. She tells her guy has to be rich, that is first and most important. He marvels at her being childishness. If you expected Makino Tsukushi it is wrong drama son! In serious manner he asks of something special to her. After pausing for a second she breaks serious atmosphere and laughs that she can only think of money. Yeah, that is why you two would not get along! He smiles like chiding himself for even asking. And... are those tears? Yamada in the mean time works at the beach hut. The work is hard but girls are happy with hot guy bringing them drinks. Happy girls mean more tips.
Kyoko-sensei goes to meet Nagahara Researcher and he acts all working-too-hard-and-being-cool-on-job. Of course she can't help but stare so he calls her on it and teases with getting too close for comfort to tell her they need to relocate to laboratory to talk. In there he tells her that since Yamada doesn't want to go means she screw something up. She asks for help but he refuses. He gains nothing by helping her. Kyoya-kun, is that you?! She struggles to find words but he cuts it short by saying he can't help for free! It is time... for her to become his bride! SAY WHAT?! What happened with going steady? She gasps for him to stop with joke but he is serious. He... really looks serious. They insist that they are not but are totally having fun while he runs out welding bat. Umm, misplaced anger? And new romantic pairing.
In the course of next few days: Yamada does few jobs and finishes off tasks on list. Kyoko-sensei goes trough universities to get info on scholarship system. Takako runs off her frustration. Mimura works on his kadou. Finally, Kyoko-sensei returns to Yamada house prepared. She even brought present for kids. But kids rip some pages to make decorations for tanabata and she decides to let them instead accompanying Yamada to his part time job. Unfortunately he doesn't have time to listen to her and rushes away on his delivery bike.
That night Yamada gets to mark last task as done and everyone cheer. He asks about their wishes for tanabata(star festival, is celebrated on July 7th) and they rattle one by one till his oldest sister, Yoshiko, tells she wishes new clothes for festival. He teases it is for meeting a boyfriend and the way girl gets shy makes him stop. As everyone continues to tease good heartedly Yamada goes out in a daze. There is where Mom finds him realizing his shock and they talk how kids grow up fast. He considered Yoshiko kid still but Mom tells that till yesterday he was this tiny kid running around and now they are talking bout college. They lough.
Next day, Yamada asks his all-knowing friend Mimura about girl's fashion for tanabata. Of course when hearing explanation Mimura laughs that marriage is near getting quite dad-ish reaction out of Yamada. LOL! This is not something Mimura knows and directs Yamada towards Takako(who panics for being stared at). Yamada confesses of feeling avoided by her but continues to stare even when they are on garden duty, mustering a courage. When he finally asks she answers simply - yukata! He is so thankful and does usual taking her hand and smiling brightly. She is in danger of falling again! But upon finding out that yukata costs about 10 000yen, he faints. HA! Later he thinks what to do. He can make one but needs fabric. Right on time, Sugiura and Masami come out of the gym with some stuff to trow and Sugiura is having some pinkish fabric with him. Nice. Yamada politely asks to have it, since it will be trown anyway but Sugiura refuses. Masami just takes it from him and hands it to Yamada. Aww! Yamada is so happy and wraps Sugiura in surprise hug making him skip the beat. Reluctant bromance for Sugiura! He is really active this episode.
Yamada runs home(even passing by Kyoko-sensei making her pout for being ignored) and takes a look at his fabric. Unfortunately it is a cheer banner not pretty at all. Yamada doesn't give up and works on it even when kids go to sleep. In the end he gets a really ugly cloak and decides that she will not wear it. Hopeless. He hears something outside and goes out to check. It is Takako here to deliver her cute old yukata, white with red flowers on it. He can't believe and traps her in a hug. She wiggles out of it sure to say she did it couse she doesn't need her yukata any more. He thanks her sincerely and she casts look at household with smile before leaving with sigh.
Next day, all kids are admiring Yoshiko and Yamada reminds her to thank Takako. Kyoko-sensei is trying to make Mimura talk with Yamada about college. Having enough of it, he tells her his own opinion: Yamada really wants to go to college but can't, at the moment he has a lot on his mind. Yamada family shows up laughing and talking about festival. Mimura approaches them with smile and embarrasses Yoshiko by telling her she looks cute. Kyoko-sensei watches all of this with sadness and walks away.
Takako is at the festival looking all cute in dark blue yukata and searching trough crowd. Someone greets her. As she turns around she sees Mimura smiling at her and he shows her Yamada family strolling their way. Kids swarm around. Yamada tells Yoshiko to thank for yukata, which she does adding question: Are you an-chan's girlfriend? Smart girl! Yamada denies and Takako also but Yoshiko motions for Takako to come closer whispering: Take good care of an-chan for us! HA! Oh, i'm loving her! Then she bounces away when her friends call her and Yamada is biting nails to see "the boyfriend". Boy bravely presents her with fish and gets teased. Actually that is not all cause bunch of other boys gather calling her cute.
No time to weep, his brother Jiro calls him to see prize on one event. Yamada reminds them that they can't use DVDplayer but they ment 3dh prize. It is watermelon! Yamada buys 3 circles and aims at third prize. First circle... i am getting nervous... and misses. Second circle, he aims... cmmon, Yamada, you can do it... darn, misses again. Kids are pretty desperate and so am i. This guy haven't slept like half of the night. Mimura obviously thinks as i do and decides to take things in his own hands. He takes a deep breath, focuses...
