Shitsuren Chocolatier episode 8
We resume on kiss and after a beat Kaoruko walks away. Seconds after Souta and Saeko part and she runs in other direction. At home Souta tries to decipher what happened, going at first trough what he expected(she would act all cutesy but undertone would be that he is idiot), than trough denial(everything happened in his head but dismisses it) and ending up totally confused. What was the meaning of her tears?! He tries again with some possibilities but bottom line is that he was rejected. Why so negative?! Saeko looks trough her Special Valentines box finding there everything she likes. With heavy sigh she takes her phone and starts typing perfect nice rejection message. But she can't make herself send so she erase it instead.
Next day, Souta goes to meet Erena and tells her all about meeting Saeko. She thinks he did it wrong. If he wanted answer he should have asked a question, otherwise it looks like he wanted to inform girl about his feelings. He should have asked. In his head our bumbling idiot realizes it is true, he never asked. Erena wants to know how he felt when he saw Saeko crying. Did he, maybe, want to hug her? Souta flashes back to the kiss. She is so out of her mind that she blurts how these are specially made for her by Souta. It gets ugly cause her husband start asking questions and gets increasingly irritated wanting to go to "choco la vie". Saeko stops him saying she doesn't want for her kouhai to find out what person her husband is. When he finds another person to suspect Saeko of having affair with she can't take it and tells his temper is why his first wife divorced him. It earns her slap.
Next day, at their home the atmosphere is chilly but Saeko apologizes saying she was wrong. Idiot husband is all "of course, your temper flared for something so stupid". Dude, what about YOUR temper? She smiles bitterly calling herself dummy.
In the "choco la vie" shop is back at its usual quiet routine. Unfortunately that leaves a lot of brain space for Souta to think. And it is still 2 weeks till White Day. Later in the kitchen, Souta goes trough his day on 14th thinking how he will wait for response that will never come and after he will go to Erena and spend time laughing and talking. When date changes, they will hug and years later talk about stupid things they got trough. Erena goes to see Ricudou to share about her "sefure-kun" thanks to whom she was fine when rejected. He notices, though she does good job hiding, that in she really wants him to get rejected and urges her to reveal her feelings. Lol! Omg, this is second person he is advising to confess to Souta! But she says with sadness that she can't do that, they are just friends with benefits after all.

She can't go to her parents home, also to her fiends home. He notes that at his parents home they also have no spare rooms and catches her expression looking at upper shop floor. She grabs her things to go to "some cheap hotel" apologizing for bother. He stops her quickly saying that they have back room, if she doesn't mind she can stay there. Though it is bit messy so he will need to clean up. She is to wait in the cafe nearby. Souta gets down to busines, but first has to send Olivier and Kaeruko home. He even has brainspace to think how while he does all this Saeko may return to her husband. In reality, Saeko seems really sad alone in the cafe. Kaeruko runs to Erena in supermarket and sees vine bottle as well as all items doubled. Both girls are nice and Kaeruko can't help but think of Oliviers' words that if she did something she might have been on Erenas' place. Souta hurries to the cafe still in doubt that Saeko will stay in shop. His phone rings. It is message from Erena saying she is waiting. Uh, my heart is aching for her. He turns to see Saeko smiling at him and forgets on it. He helps her with luggage and apologizes for place being like that(it is much better than when he was sleeping there). Saekos' husband comes to find house dark and everything on its place except his wife and her clothes. Kaeruko is alone at cinema but i think she doesn't even see the movie. In the back room Saeko tells Souta how she feels like object in her house and if she tells that to her husband he will retort that people are object. Souta gently wipes her tear wondering if he managed to become prince in her eyes. Till yesterday he was just a guy, chocolatier with fantasies, but today he finally stepped up.

Souta admits that he doesn't know what to say after standing her up like that. Olivier thinks it might have been his mistake for not calling Erena "girlfriend" from the beginning. She is really polite right away apologizing for being bother and explaining that she had situation at home. Indeed, Dad notices huge purple bruise under her right elbow and his anger disappears asking if Souta told her to clean. She is sure to say she wanted to do it, as a thanks for being able to stay. Hearing she had nowhere to go tugs Dads' heart and he lets her be. In the kitchen though everyone prepares for an outburst he tells Souta to look for girl properly. HA! He goes on how good girls like her get caught by bad boys. Omg, like father like son! That is exactly what is Kaoruko thinking deciding to pay little visit to Saeko in back room. She asks her if Saeko is just playing with Souta or does she love him properly. It confuses Saeko cause she never thought about love as serious. She knows that Souta has a lot of girls around but wants to try hard to be the one he loves the most. Kaoruko is appalled cause that is game, like shogi! Saeko points that people who practice shogi are doing it for real, with discipline and trying to read other peoples' feelings. After again being told it is not like that, Saeko asks what is it then, loving someone for real? Kaoruko thinks about it and first that comes to her mind is: without caring for appearance. But then realizes she never noticed Souta till he came from Paris all beautified. She tries again with: Wishing for other persons' happiness. It occures to her that she never trully wanted for Souta to be happy, always wishing for him to fail with both Saeko and Erena. She was thinking that he should suffer since she
is suffering. In the end she only wanted to go out with Chocolate Prince. Saeko is still waiting for an answer and Kaeruko thinks how she looks like she understands but in fact is as clueless. She rans out thinking how she is the same, no, bellow Saeko. Being distressed, she slips going down stairs and ends in Soutas' arms thinking how women are disgusting beings and he should be careful. Of Saeko but also of her.
That ending was really something. It bothered me at first that Kaeruko is tagging women as disgusting but after realizing that that is how she sees the world is what made it sad instead. She is person that never never does anything out of order cause she believes that it is childish and as she pointed about million times, she is adult. Being like that she looks down on those who are still playing in their life, that IMO gives her that look of old person though she is in early 30s. Now confronted with being nothing better than Saeko i am wondering if writer will at last let her change a little cause at one time they just started dragging her character with these confrontations. Till now she had them with Olivier, Sekiya, Souta and now Saeko. I think it is more than enough for sane person to realize it is time to move on.
It was BIG episode for Souta and Saeko which made me realize what i wish for their future. It would be great for Saeko to be alone and try resolve things without man. She has good brain and it would be pity if she wasted it on seducing men. How about finding a job, realizing what you want in your life. Since they spent at least this time together, Souta can finally finish with being... like this, and continue his life as normal person would. After dumping Erena like this i don't want them together but Saeko is obviously not loving him enough so that also won't do. At least he is having his chocolate. The thing Olivier said about naming relationship may change how people act in said relationship speaks miles of people more believing how other people see what is happening in their life that how they feel. That thing about bruises was also interesting since i don't recall seeing them in bathroom but way Saeko rolls her sleeves down when Kaeruko came speaks miles of not wanting to be considered weak person. Also i understand how she doesn't know what love is, just a glimpse of her mother is enough to show she doesn't consider woman should be happy in marriage.
