Tokyo Bandwagon episode 1
Night, police station. Drunk man is telling police woman that he wants love and whole world needs love. Not sure how she can keep such grim face when he keeps being so cute! Being informed that there is problem some place else, she locks police box and rushes him home. Behind him is standing wide-eyed young woman. When he leans close telling that he needs love she is frightened and pushes him to the ground. Our drunkard is Ao Hotta(Kamenashi Kazuya), as narrator(his grandma) explains he is usually not like that and cares much for family as well as secondhand bookshop owned by them. At breakfast we are explained that head of the family is Kanichi Hotta(Sei Hiraizumi) whos wife(our narrator) Sachi Hotta(Mariko Kaga) died 2years ago. Grandpa lives with granddaughter, Aiko Hotta(Mimura) or just Ai is nice woman with one daughter Kayo(Runa Ozawa) and grandsons Ao, who we already met, and Kon Hotta(Nobuaki Kaneko) who has wife, pretty stewardess Ami(Airi Taira), and son Kento(Yuma Kimino). Ai is painter but since that job is not stable she opened little cafe at bookshop and Ami is helping her. Kon is freelancer writer but helps at bookshop. They are one big, loud family but it is obvious that they are pretty close. It is time to go to school when old man appears. He is only son of Grandpa, Ganato Hotta(Koji Tamaki), rocker who wants to retire but hasn't been home for whole month. It may be a reason why relationship between him and Ao is not so good. They keep clashing, Ao is obviously not respecting older man, while Ganato keeps ignoring Aos' nagging. Later Ao puts "No drinking" sign on fridge(putting these kind of signs is something like tradition in Hotta family) and finds a book that doesn't belong to him, in his bag. Noise attracted his attention. It is Grandpa yelling at some fancy-suit guy asking to buy his store. It is probably usual since Kon and Ao note that guy got yelled at again. Guy apologizes but Grandpa trows salt/rice(?) at him which hits foreigner guy Maddock-san, who unfortunately enters at that moment. Ai rushes to apologize and it is clear as a day that Maddock has crush on her. While brothers are teasing Maddock about it, girl comes in asking for Ao. He hides and Ami takes charge asking who girl is. Apparently our Ao helped girl when she trew up(he is tour guide and she was in one group) so she asked where she can find him and he gave her pamphlet for store. Stupid thing to do since girl obviously has crush on him and by evryones' reaction this is not the first time. Ami introduces herself as Aos' wife. Funny thing is that she is standing by her husband and introducing herself as his brothers' wife without blink. HA! Girl makes fuss and storms out cursing. In his defense Ao does seem like he is feeling bad and apologizes but thinks girl misunderstood since it is his job to talk nicely as tour guide. Ummm, nope! Ai brings up marriage talk and Ao excuses himself. Just then Grandpa discovers 2 unfamiliar encyclopedias hidden on the shelf in the back of the store.
Ao went to return book to girl from episode beginning. Since book had women college stamp he waited there. When he finds her, girl, Suzumi Makino(Tabe Mikako), is trilled to see the book but not interested in talking to him. He finally manages to engage her in book conversation by citing part from her book stating that he red it in sixth grade. It is cute how he looks almost desperate trailing her like puppy. She notes how he doesn't look like someone who reads(HA!) and he gives her bookshop pamphlet finally getting chance to apologize properly. Well it is clear why everyone teases him about being heartbreaker, who would resist that smile?! In the shop oyaji Ganato introduces to Ai his friend Ken-chan(Ken Mitsuishi), janitor in building near. He was homeless but recently found a job. Also Ganatos' fan. Little Kento returns from school and gives Ami notification about Dad day in school. Kayo should bring Dad too and it seems like someone from family always goes instead. Grandpa and Kon want to show Ao books at the back of the store but they are gone. Hmmm. Later Grandpa goes to patrol streets with neighbors(some incidents happened lately) and brothers go to place nearby to drink and play shogi. Owner Manami(Hairi Katagiri) knows them well and keeps track on their score. Guys try to push responsibility of inheriting bookshop on eachother when Grandpa arrives slightly injured. Some suspicious guy pushed him when Grandpa called out to him. Next day Kayo is returning home and her friends ask who will come with her to Dad day, saying she is lucky for having so many cool relatives, sighing their fathers are just fighting with mothers. Kayo just misses chibi girl getting out of the shop but little Kenta stops Kayo to share something with her. They run to Grandpa and Kon who just noted that books were there that morning but disappeared again. Kids found out chibi Namiko-chan from neighborhood comes every morning to leave books in the shop and when returning home she collects books. By the dinner they discuss what is she trying to gain with doing that same routine and Kon realizes she wants to be heavier. But what is the reason? Next day, kids and brothers remove books from shelf so chibi goes home without them. They follow and just when she is at front door of her building Kon instructs kids to return her books and invite her at bookstore at 3. Later he explains that chibis' front door are sensitive to weight and since she doesn't have much they wont open. Ao thinks it is too hard to carry such heavy books, she could jump on sensor. Ai asks chibi about it and little girl says she will be scolded by janitor working there. He is nice guy but little girl found it weird that he waited for her every day to jump with her and open door. Ao and Grandpa go to see guy and older man recognizes him as weird guy who pushed him few nights ago. Ao is ready to confront perv but just then oyaji Ganato comes and introduces guy as his friend, guy from before Ken-chan. Grandpa says that guy is not decent and oyaji Ganato confirms it, Ao can't believe he is admitting. Later guys bring Ken-chan to Manamis' bar and he apologizes to Grandpa for injury. Oyaji Ganato asks him for little girl, does he know her? At home Kayo sighs looking at Dad day pamphlet while little Kenta pouts for not being invited to join "men party"! HA! In the bar, Ken-chan admits that Namikos' mom is his daughter. Ha?! He had company, wife and daughter Noriko. But then his company was run-down so he ran away. He tried to kill himself, but failed. Then continued to live from town to town and send his wife divorce papers. His wife never remarried, his friend informed him that she died 3 years ago. Also he found out his daughter married and lives near and by chance he saw add for job there. Man admits being selfish for wanted to see his daughter but it gave him will to change and become respectful person. When he saw chibi Namiko she reminded him of his own daughter and he wanted to hug her and give her a help. Ao doesn't find this endearing at all. Guy is just giving excuses when he is getting what he deserves. Leaving wife and kid in tough time, how much they must have suffered! How many hardship they have gone trough being leaved like that! Oyaji Ganato asks if he is familiar how parents feel. Ao says that as matter of fact he is not, that means Ganato is not entitled to talk about stuff like that, right? Ganato confirms it, with pinch of sadness. But then punches Ao for telling it to his friend. Kon has to separate them and only thing that puts stop on fight is Grandpa who yells for them to go and destroy their own house. He apologizes to lady owner but she is used to it. Kon informs them that Kens' daughter doesn't talk about her father and everyone thinks he is dead. Ganato exits spouting another LOVE nonsense inducing Ao to ask what the hell is love actually. We've been all dying to know your brand of love honey! And then Ami runs in saying that Kayo disappeared. Everyone rush to find her leaving Kon to pay. He is probably used to it. Also he takes time to apologize to Ken and explain that Ao is his half brother, being born from Ganatos' mistress and abandoned by her shortly after. That is the reason he reacted so passionate. Well, Ken could have heard most accurately how his family felt.
Everyone is searching for Kayo and Ai looks quite desperate. Ami explains to boys that girl wanted to know who her father is and said her mom to marry at least Maddock-san. Oyaji Ganato comes home finding just grandson there. Door not being closed attract his attention and he enters book storage. Kayo is hiding there and i must say i love this room. They start talking and girl is obviously suffering because she has no father. Ganato says that Love is something that you feel even if that person is not there. Kayo was made from her mother and fathers love. So Love is everything. Enters Ao calling him on loads of crap and giving Kayo cute smile. Ganato goes and Ao sits to chat with Kayo. He thinks parents are selfish beings but asks if Kayo thinks Ai is bad parent. Kayo agrees Ai is giving the best of herself, being always so cool and nice, she is really good Mom. Ao asks Kayo to believe in Ai. Aww they are so cute! But when they exit storage and Kayo can't bring herself to talk with Ai yet, so she just passes by. Poor Ais' heart sinks.

Ai grabs Kayos' hand and they run out too. Brothers locate noise on the rooftop of the building where Ken-chan is working. Oyaji Ganato is holding concert and even hugs poor Ken-chan who is desperate to make them leave till he sees his daughter and granddaughter enjoying. Ai is standing on the street with Kayo and explains that she already met love of her life, that is her daughter. She doesn't need anyone else. Girls smile and hug. Even Ao lets out little smile. Later Ganato police car comes and before coming in he tells Noriko that janitor is his friend Kenichiro, he did something stupid but tries his best now to change. Also adds that nothing comes out of dislike, ne~? Probably the best advice he gave in his life. He gets rolled away with bunch of people running behind. The only people left are Ken-chan and his daughters' family. There is this beautiful silent scene where she approaches him with question "Where have you been till now?" in her eyes, while he just cries looking at her and ekes "I'm sorry!" Amazing. Brothers watch till Kon leads their apologizing trip by the neighborhood.
Next day Grandpa is again sitting with fancy-suit guy, Naoya Fujishima(Yoshihiko Inohara from V6). Fancy talks so poetically about the book that it is first time Grandpa orders coffee for him. That is also the first time Fancy lays eyes on Ai and looks like he developed crush. Grandpa decides to sell him just the book he was talking about and will continue to do so until stuck up, fancy, silver-spoon guy like him understands value of this bookshop. Fancy is trilled! Just then Maddock comes and guys tease him about rivals. Ao gets informed that his trip to Dubai is canceled because of influenza.
