Makoto gets cautioned by God that spending the night together -last challenge- is more important than he thinks. You can see if you are compatible with the person you are spending time. Don't mess up!
At work, Midori reveals to Makoto that she and Goofy went to eat 3 times already. Goofy is uncomfortable and asks if they can not talk about it at work, she should go eat with ladies. This reminds Makoto to ask about place to eat and they somehow end up talking about Scowlys' love life. He praises Boss for his great advice. After all telling the truth was the best.
Haruko and Yotsuya are preparing for meeting and Yotsuya is advising Haruko on seducing Makoto since staying overnight means they are going all the way. Lol. There appears Lady Director and maybe it is me but i have no idea what they were talking about. But they are all dressed so well.
On Makotos' way out Boss stops to ask him about misunderstanding with Harukos' Dad. Makoto can happily report that everything was resolved and Dad even invited them to onsen. Boss is clearly relieved and i am happy to know that someone in that office cares. Boss says how when he first stayed in onsen with his wife he couldn't even sleep. His wife was unable to sleep without night light on but he was used to sleeping in the dark. Of course light was on whole nigh. Makoto says he is the same as boss which makes older man really happy.
After work, Makoto goes to his friends' place with Haruko. They look at onsen pamphlet, she reveals it is her first time there too. Makotos' friend says he went there before. When he was active sumo wrestler, he went there for springs' healing power. Haruko adds that her parents said water there is great and friend adds that it is famous for women who want to easily have babies. Flustered glances between Makoto and Haruko. But they busy themselves with food.
Makoto returns home to find God fixing some kids clothes. God asks what name Makoto wanted to give to his kid. Makoto thinks he should not decide alone but God insists. First name from the top of his head... Ichiro! Ta-daaa, God takes out his drivers licence and announces he is Makotos' son. Makoto doesn't believe him. And who would. He goes on to tell God he never actually believed he was God for real. Just some loony guy believing he is. As for why Makoto listened to him is because he knew a lot about Makoto and Haruko, like the fact that they met when 5 and that they were at same shrine on New Years. But God insists he came back from 30years in the future. Makoto says you can't reveal your identity if you do that. Besides God knows awful lot about current affairs for someone from the future. God admits of being hooked on television shows. And he vacuumed twice a day. No wonder Makotos' electricity bill was high. Lol.
God/Ichiro reveals of being visited by real God who told him he was to go to the past and introduce himself as a God. He also described God as old man with white beard, quite generic looking. If Ichiro had more time he would have finished his research and saved the earth. That is why he came back. Makoto is confused. Why didn't he got back 5 or 10 years and sped up his research? Ichiro pouts that he told the same thing to God but was told delay was because Haruko and Makoto took a lot of time with getting together. Ichiro was to return and make them hurry up. Does this mean they would get together even if he didn't return? Yup, it most certainly does. They are soul mates after all. God told him what happened with them so that he could know. Makoto points that he can also teleport and Ichiro says it is his invention: teleportation device. Makoto is totally confused. Ichiro says he is overthinking and should just believe. If that is true then Makoto is offended at how rude Ichiro is to his father from the get go. Even more offended at how rudely he is addressing Haruko, calling her by name and not bothering to add -san. Since he says she is his mother it is extremely rude. Also Makoto imitating Ichiro is so funny. Ichiro promises to give him proper treatment when Makoto clears this task: drain water to the bottom. Makoto can't believe this. Why would he drain water in onsen? Who ever does that?! Ichiro tells him that there will be message at the bottom so he has to.
Next day, Haruko is ready to leave and Mom and Dad recommend her where to go, what to eat and what to bring them. Also Dad says hello to Makoto.
Haruko and Makoto arrive at restaurant and are pleased to realize that his friends and her parents recommended the same place. They choose two dishes Harukos' parents told her about and share it the way Haruko and Yotsuya always do. After they walk trough town, hand in hand, when Makoto sees sign for shooting parlor Scowly told him about. It is nice place and though they didn't manage to hit anything, they get yakisoba noodles(him) and jelly(her).
They return to their room in onsen and are little awkward to be alone but not too much. They agree to go to dinner after taking a bath. Makoto is first to get back in the room. Girl asks how far should futons be and after some consideration he tells her 4 fists apart.
Meanwhile, Ichiro is making himself useful and cleans Makotos' apartment thoroughly. Yotsuya and Sadaoka are at old mans' place. She is woried about Haruko and Makoto. Sadaoka tells her there is nothing to worry about. Makoto will do the right thing when it gets to it. He is serious, committed and works hard. That is why Yotsuya iz worried, they are both so serious. Will Makoto manage to make Haruko shed her armor? What if he doesn't and Haruko overthinks things and returns to her depressed state?! Luckily food arrives so she stops with depressive thoughts. Old man notices her getting a little bit of Sadaoka rubbing off her. She would like to get more of it.
Haruko returns to the room after hot spring visit. Makoto is still not there so she uses her time to practice posing in yukata.
Makoto realized hot spring will be closing in 10min so he decided to wait it out. Once water stopped coming in, he pulls out the plug. After half hour, bottom is visible but there was nothing on it. No time to think further about it sinceguy comes to scrub the bath and Haruko is waiting for him in the room. She asks if he wants beer and he happily accepts. She remembers of pouring beer to her father when she was younger and always being praised that beer felt better like that. Makoto agrees with it. They share stories of eating grown up snacks in secret and it makes them hungry. Makoto remembers of yakisoba noodles cup he got at shooting parlor and they happily prepare it. Haruko happens to have just-in-case chopsticks in her bag. It is really cute how happy they are to share noodles and how comfortable they are getting around eachother. Once the bottom of the cup is visible, Haruko notices there is something written.
Onna: Always stay by my side ok?
Otoko: For sure!
They look at eachother. Smiling, Haruko says they should go to sleep. She is already in the bed when Makoto returns. He asks if she leaves light on but she says she sleeps in dark. He is happy and tells her about his boss and his wife having different sleeping habits. With it conversation is over. They turn the light off and wish eachother goodnight. But Makoto can't sleep. He remembers Sadaoka telling him to pull happiness close. He lifts up and drags Harukos' futon right next to his. Haruko is remembering Yotsuyas' words and looks straight at Makoto who looks back at her. He leans forward and she lifts covers for him to lie besides her. He smiles and looks at her and she gently closes her eyes. They kiss.
Next day, Makoto returns home to find Ichiro taking a bath with Makotos' new, never used bath powder. Ha. Ichiro has point saying that Makoto was after all enjoying himself in onsen. This doesn't stop Makoto from childishly turning off lights in bathroom on his way out. Ichiro is unbothered, adding more bath powder and raps that towel is also new. Lol.
Haruko sits with her parents who are eager to find out how was it. She takes beer can to pour for her father and he remembers how when she gave up on pouring it for him, he gave up on beer in glass bottle. Mom and Haruko want to drink too and Dad wants to pour for them. He ends up being terrible at it. Hahaha.
Ichiro and Makoto bicker about Ichiro again wearing shoes in the house. Makoto tries to make him take them off but Ichiro just changes subject to onsen task being success. Makoto worries that if Ichiro is indeed his kid he cannot love him to the fullest remembering all this. But Ichiro tells him it doesn't matter cause he won't remember any of this. Its like in a movies, tiny poke in the neck and Makoto will have no idea Ichiro was ever here. Makoto grumpily says that he should be gone already, nothing for him to do here any more. He assures Ichiro he can handle proposal and will not forget Harukos' ring size. Also tells him not to come back again. Ichiro smiles and with it he is gone. Makoto is incredulous that he really disappeared and tries to walk out of apartment and ring a bell, searches for him trough apartment or calls for him(by the name). He still grumbles thinking of his last words to Ichiro and if he is really gone, while waiting for water in the tub to drain(Ichiro didn't do it). Words appear at the bottom of the tub.
Dear Makoto, are you relieved or little sad that i am gone? I am so happy to be able to see you working so hard. Looking at you not giving up i felt like earth can be saved. Because i have your blood in my veins. I also like name Ichiro so don't worry about it. I also like name Saburo Godley that you gave me when Mi-chan came over. Such a shame that we cannot stay friends like this forever. Don't you think? We were together for short time but it was fun. Laters forever.
Trough out reading, Makoto remembers spending time with Ichiro, all the situations. At the end he is tearing and mutters that Ichiro should have properly said he was leaving, Makoto would have thanked him. Camera changes angle and we see a small irritation mark on his neck. Aiyo, he is already poked in the neck! But Makoto doesn't know this. He grabs cleaning supplies and starts rubbing tub vigorously while yelling for Ichiro to come back and at least call him Dad properly. No one comes. No one answers.
Next morning, Makoto wakes up in the tub, cleaning sponge in hand. Bath tub is clean, no sign of message. Also no sign of poke mark on Makotos' neck. He wonders what was he doing but no time for it cause he is late for work. He gets ready and grabs a garbage to throw on his way. In there we see is a tofu bag.
Voiceover tells us it is "laters forever" for the two of them.
