It seems that recently everything i watch has Yamapi in it. Not that i'm complaining, just facts...
If you are not comfortable with teacher/student relationship movies, this one is not for you. At all. But if you like Yamapi in suits more than you care about relationship that may be inappropriate irl, or you simply don't care what theme is as long as there is ikemen, this is a movie for you. In my case it was curiosity that made me want to watch it as i was familiar with manga. Also Yamapi in suits, not gonna lie.:)
So, basically there is this girl, Kururugi Yuni(Komatsu Nana) with always serious face. She never shows when afraid and always follows rules. Then, there is this english teacher, Sakurai Haruka(Yamashita Tomohisa), who is young, hot and popular with all girls. Kururugi doesn't want anything to do with him. Unfortunately for her, though she is top scoring student, her english is bad so Sakurai-sensei decides that she will have lessons with him till her score climbs to at least 70. What ensues is them getting to know eachother a little and her getting bullied by girl trio who like Sakurai-sensei after they find out she is having one-on-one time with him.
There is also Yunis' guardian who is math teacher in school, Akechi-sensei(Arai Hirofumi), nice guy who cares about girl, and Sakurai-senseis' ex, Takizawa Mirei(Mizukawa Asami, love her) who is new teacher in school. She is not that bad just still hung up on Sakurai-sensei and tries to make him date her again. But somehow manages to not make you hate her. Yuni has one best friend who is totally opposite from her, Nanami(Yamamoto Mizuki, love her also). She is cute, upbeat but really nice girl. Also there is second lead guy, boy from Yunis' school, Matoba Ryu(Kotaki Nozomu), who didn't get enough screen time to be relevant.
After Sakurai-sensei and Yuni get together there is a lot of angst and pain and will-they-won't-they situations. Which is ok i guess, since this kind of theme is not everyones' cup of tea you need to show that they really care for eachother so that we believe they belong together. Maybe that is why i wasn't that bothered about that while watching.
On the other hand i felt somewhat robed for some parts of stories. Like Matoba, who seems like nice kind of guy but when he hit Sakurai-sensei it felt out of place. Matoba is close to nothing to Yuni so why is he doing that? I know he likes her, but i also like Yamapi and you won't see me insulting every person that writes bad bout him. As i was saying before fangirl took over, there is easily material for at least 30min more cause some things are pretty rushed. No one can tell me that ending didn't feel so.
But to sum things up, it wasn't waste of time. Film is enjoyable if you like plot and actors. Which i did (though Komatsus' bored face did tend to get old at occasions). To Yamapi, this role was just down his alley so he was great. I have a lot respect for Asami and tumbs up for her.
