Finally started this kdrama I've had sitting around for a bit. I've seen it listed as having 20 episodes, and 26 episodes. So far, they're been 45. 47, and 50 minute episodes, so I'm assuming I have the 26 episode version.
First of all, for those who have already seen it(miss
scottishlass, ma'am) does Kang Dong Won run around at full speed in his business suit in varying stages of undress in every episode. Because he has twice already...
This, incidentally, is a good thing.
Anyway, this is about a school teacher, Da-Hyun, who's nice to an old man on the train one dy, and befriends him. She thinks he's just a sweet, lonely old man who recently retired and misses his deceased wife. Which is true, she just doesn't know the part about him being hte multimillionaire owner of a huge corporation. After about a month, he decides that he wants her for a granddaghter(actually, I doubt it took him that long...) and sets up a provion in his will: She inherits everything if she marries his grandson, Jae-In. If she doesn't marry Jae-In, he wants her to marry his other grandson, Tae-Ha. Basically, he wants her to be the one controlling the grandson he makes his heir. She, of course, knows nothing about any of this(though he almost blew his cover in one of the last scenes I saw before having to leave for work) and vents to him about Jae-In once they've met.
First of all angst is ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN TO SHOW UP?
Why? Because if angst shows up, I'm almost positive that it'll be the grandfather dying before Jae-In knows/admits he cares about Da-Hyun, so there can be "you do'nt love me, you just want the inheritance" angst(which, based on what I've seen, will be justifiable if it happens)
But the point is, it would involve the grandfather dying, which I absolutely DO NOT want...
Anyway, I'm adoring this thing. It's a fun take on the "Interfering parent/grandparent forces child to marry" schtick, but it's the characters that make it wonderful.
Da-Hyun is incredibly open and cheerful and sweet, but she's also a complete scatterbrain(her father and brother place bets on how many times she'll have to go back to the house for something she's forgotten in the morning, and her students opinion of her is that she needs to be given "The talk" when she's going on a blind date) and incredibly strong willed(her sister is actually her childhood friend...they went to Hyun-Jin's house to get notes for aclass, and when her stepfather started beating them because Hyun-Jin had been out so late--running an errand for a teacher--Da-Hyun grabbed her and bolted, and told her parents that Hyun-Jin would be living with them from then on) which lets her stand up to Jae-In.
Jae-In is also adorable...he's a sweetie and obviously devoted to his family, but incredibly stubborn and short tempered. He refuses to let his grandfather run his life, but it's obvious that he'd never agree to date Da-Hyun just for the company, no matter how much he loves it, but he also wants his grandfather to be happy(not that he realizes it) ut that temper...when he sees his cousin, Tae-Ha, you can almost see his knuckles popping while he's trying to control his temper, and when he sees a bad proposal on his desk that shouldn't be there, he literally wrecks his office. Naturally, he assumes the worst about Da-Hyun and explodes at her when they meet. But the second time, you can see he's practically killing himself trying to be sweet and charming. And when he sees his grandfather, his face automatically assumes a chastised puppy look, becausehe knows he's been bad...he may not know how, but he knows he has.
I also adore the supporting cast, especially Hyun-Jin, who's essentially Da-Hyun's caretaker, and Kim Hyeong-jun (I think tha'ts his name) who's Jae-In's lawyer(relative?) and...yup...caretaker...
I wanna babble more, but I have to go to a meeting...
