First off, OMG OMG OMG!
Legend of Butterfly Lovers, a 41 ep Chinese drama that just aired, is actually getting subbed.
And subs for first three eps are out in its soompi thread!
I am so watching! How can you go wrong with star-crossed doomed love, a period setting, cool costumes, cross-dressing (girl as boy) etc etc.
OMG.
More coherent synopsis (from soompi): A beautiful girl disguises herself as a man and lives under one roof with a young male scholar for three years without revealing her true identity. They become "sworn brothers," soul mates and lovers. In a world in which marriage is determined by social status and arranged by parents, what is their inescapable Romeo-and-Juliet-type of fate?
Currently I am through episode 12 of Green Rose and yeah, it’s as good as ever. I really like the twisty (and not dumb) plotting of trying to clear Go Soo’s name. He was hot as a sweet, upright worker. He was hotter as a messed up, tortured and desperate woobie. But as the clever, determined nemesis? That’s definitely for the win in the hotness stakes.
But yeah, I love the fact that he has this awesome ragtag team of helpers: the goofy guy from China for sneakiness, his impassive bodyguard for efficiency and also sneakiness, the secretary girl for the femme fatale touch and his best friend to help break into places :) Plus the honest awesome lawyer investigator on the periphery.
I confess I find myself wanting to shake him and yell at him ‘Tell her you are you, dummy!’ Mind you, I totally understand why he doesn’t: she is always around with the bad guy (of course, she has no idea he is the bad guy) and if she learned the truth, she wouldn’t be able to act the same way around him, and not only would that jeopardize his quest, but it would put her in total danger.
So I totally understand. But still, she still loves and misses him so much, and he loves and misses her so much too, that I just want to take the two of them and lock them in a room to work out their frustrations and issues in a positive fashion :D
I did love how they ended up on a ‘date’ anyhow (one of the good VPs, who believed in his innocence earlier, basically told her to take the protagonist sightseeing. VP is pretty sure it’s Jung-Hyun come back, though he won’t say anything. Awww). And OMG, the staring…*dies* I especially love the part where they are driving on the bridge where he jumped off and he is totally freaking out because of the association (though trying to conceal it) and she asks him to stop the car and I love how he hesitates and it takes effort. And they get out and she says there is where the man she loved jumped and how she often thought what he must have felt and then she looks straight at him and says ‘he must have been so firghtened’ and there is more staring…
I just love how no matter what his common sense tells him, he can’t let her go, not even for now. He asks her if he can see her again at the end of the day, and once she walks into the house, he just stands there, totally still, just looking at her retreating figure, as if he’s forgot his mission entirely. Or earlier, he can’t refuse telling her she looks like the woman he loved (part of his fictitious background is that he had a gf who killed herself). And he tells her that he is glad she died first because he wouldn’t want the woman he loved mourn him so, he couldn’t even rest in death if that was the case (awwwwww, coded comfort, I love it).
Did I mention the earlier scene where he had to watch her and the bad guy dance and pretend to be completely politely disinterested? OMG. He has STRESS issues. (Like the little dream he had of running over the bad guy with a car).
And yeah, he is so vulnerable where she is concerned no matter how he tries to conceal it. When the best friend (OMG, reunion scene? With the punching, and the hugging, and the crying? Awesome) mentions that he quit his job because Soo-Ah (the heroine) took the death so badly and she’d start every time she saw him because it would remind her of Jung-Hyun, the look on the guy’s face? EEEEE.
I just realized that all four episodes of the mini drama If in love...like them have been subbed. Eeeee!
Here is a MV about the OTP. OMG, kissing!

I posted a bunch of awesome pics from it earlier

Also, dilemmas, dilemmas...
What should be my next Lee Dong Gun drama?
For a long time I thought it was going to be Stained Glass (all that yummy romantic angst) but then I discovered Smile Again. And
calledinvain mentioned it's like a Korean take on Taiyou No Kisetsu, a drama I've been nuts for and he plays a messed up boy.
Am torn now. Opinions? Anyone see both, either, and can wisely advise?
