Thought I'd crosspost all of my capslocky/keymashing/incoherent thoughts and comments on watching this underappreciated drama.
DramaWiki for Que Sera Sera In short, it's a love quadringle of cynical people who don't consider love to be all that. It was a realistic, hurty vibe to it, but also some lighter comedy. It is however far removed from the director's earlier, wonderfully light though realistic My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. Oh, and there is much kissing. And a hot Eric Mun. Yep.
I couldn't tell you if it's recommendable just yet but I want to marathon all of it, so I guess it's saying something.
Episode 1
Eric Mun is so hot omfg. sdkhfdfdfgjdghjdgjdf Plz to be having teh sex with me. Or like, make your band tour in my bed. Anything!
And the girl is so friggin' cute. <3333
The plot synopses of this are screaming "complex and unpredictable drama!!!" at me and I glanced some spoilers. I am worried to DEATH because the spoilers are just all dhfsdjfg.
Highlight to read, EXTREME SPOILERS UP TO EP 16:
So ... the OTP I was guessing is the OTP is the OTP BUT... SHE MARRIES THE OTHER GUY. And IS PREGNANT. And it's not yet known who's the baby daddy. OMGOMGOMGWTF.
And meanwhile he's dating little miss depressed - the other third wheel character. OMGWTF!!! Either this drama ROCKS or SUCKS beyond ep 1.
I.must.see.more.
At the risk that this is a "Something Happened in Bali"-type ending.
Because... Kim Sam Soon director!! Eric!!! Cute Lead Lady!!! It's seems like a realistic drama as MNIKSS was BUT dramatic and complex to the MAX... I hope for a happy ending but somehow I doubt it right now, based on those spoilers.
Siiigh, Eric.
Oh, and did I mention - hot Eric Mun. And so much fanservice. Showering AND kissing in the same ep. Damn. Just ..damn.
Episode 2
Watched ep 2 and eeeeeeeeee. SPOILERS!!
This is very intriguing. Third-wheel-dude (aka Not Eric) who ends up being interested in Eun Soo (our cute heroine!) is adopted brother of Little Miss Depressed and they were in lurve before he left for The States. They had some very intriguing dialogue (re: family business, she was all, "You have to take the responsibility" and he was all, "Not until I marry") over family dinner table and later she comes to his room and he's cold and she angsts about how he left the country and she gets angry and he kisses her. Omg. Omg. and it was hot even though they're weirdly pseudoincesty..
And the OTP of Tae Joo and Eun Soo is so so so cute what with her missing Saturday panties and him carrying her to bed.
MUST WATCH MORE.
Episode 3
Watching ep 3 now...
OUCH. Third-wheel-dude is all, "Just because the heart moves, doesn't mean it's love" and Little Miss Depressed is just crying and begging and "I love you oppa" and I really feel for her. Perhaps it's because she's kind of a cow in her scenes with Tae Joo but here she's just a broken person and woeeee. Ahhh angsty and dysfunctional secondary OTP looove.
And Tae Joo/Eun Soo elevator scene of uber-cute (where she's all, "Have we met before we met?" and he's all, "Oh you just think that because I'm so handsome, people like me are on TV!") but then some broad comes and makes out with him. BOO! Save some of that for Eun Soo, she's just so adorable.
ALSO: If Koreans ever remake Nodame Cantabile - and I'm not saying they ever should/have to - but if they do, this lady who plays Eun Soo *has* to be Nodame or there is no justice in this world. Okay, maybe she's a bit too pouty but still, I think she'd make a good Nodame.
Kay, time to learn names!
Little Miss Depressed - Hye Rin
Eric - Tae Joo
Cute OTP Girl - Eun Soo
Third-wheel-guy - Joon Hyuk
Oh oh oh. Joon Hyuk is treated like shit by Hye Rin's mother, who tells him pretty much she wants him out of the house and away from her daughter. Hmm, way to ADOPT SOMEBODY and then kick 'em out, lady. WTF.
Tae Joo, you are such a manwhore! Now he's doing some sort of revenge with this ladyfriend of his who has a fiancee or something and getting paid for it. It's odd, because he was all, "I'm not a gigolo!" in the first ep. Er, sure you're not!
But I sort of don't care because he's hot and so cute with Eun Soo.
..who just got arrested. OMG!
But it's okay now. Her sister just insulted Tae Joo's looks. "You're greasy looking." Hahahahaha.
It's official, this drama owns me. Also, official website synopsis quote:
There are four young people living in this era of love.
They have learned to be somewhat sophisticated and somewhat shrewd.
They think "love-of-a-lifetime" is an overused theme of old tear-jerkers and things like "great love" or "soul mates" are just plain cheesy.
But they also do fall in love. In that "over-rated" feeling called "love."
We want to see edgy and cynical kids falling into old-fashioned love.
We want to see the beauty of struggling youth when cupid's arrow of love strikes their cynical hearts.
And reassure ourselves that "true love" still lies deep in our hearts.
This series is a story of all-so-proud characters facing a huge blow from love which they have never taken very seriously.
It's like "Fall in love and suffer, cynical fuckers!!". LOVE IT.
OMG pseudocest OTP angst & goodbye-saying. ;__;
Eun Soo and Tae Joo talking about kissing omg omg cute attack! And he's telling her she's a voyeur for watching other people kiss and she should go to the hospital if it's that serious. xD!!! And she insists she's been in love and has been kissed and he's all "Yeah right."
WHY IS THIS DRAMA SO AWESOME. Tae Joo just explained her why men don't like kissing and she's like, "What do men like?" and he gets awkward, "Things of more sexual nature.." and she continues to insist her "experience is very rich" and he's like, "Yeah you've dated lots, men are just lining up to date you!" - THIS SCENE IS JUST FULL OF WIN.
The elevator is stuck!! This scene just got 29463295 times better!
sjdgasjdgajgsdjhgsjfgjfgd THIS DRAMA. THAT KISS. Her "Ajusshi, that was fun. Let's do it again." and his reaction to it agdjsdgfjdgfjdgj
THIS DRAMA. Oh man oh man oh man.
I love it. I mean, I don't know if I'll like how it continues or ends up but I love it thus far. The episodes have occasional dragginess but the stuff with the two OTPs and the way they cross and especially the Eun Soo/Tae Joo scenes are to die for. And the portrayal of relationships is so drama yet so realistic, just like MNIKSS, and the characters have *flavor*. Tae Joo isn't just gigolo player whatever dude, and Joon Hyuk has the whole orphan thing, and Hye Rin is tragically loveless and vulnerable and Eun Soo is naive yet not, quirky yet not typically cheery kdrama heroine.
They're all so intriguing and wonderful and omg omg. Ep 4, here I come.
Episode 4
Que Sera, Sera is rocking my world currently. I pretty much have faith that they'll pull off all that stuff I posted spoilers about. Why? Because it's really awesome thus far.
Oh Tae Joo you cruel bastard. Poor Eun Soo. She's so innocent and awesome and luckily doesn't come off as too much a weakling. So heart-breaking. And it's so obvious she likes him a lot and it's SO obvious he cares for her a lot and just. eeee.
But then they run into each other at her work place!!
And he needs her for the fashion show. omg. And she gets allergic reaction from face mask and he yells at her ( = it's love, it's love) and she cries because she's sorry. Ohhh this OTP. SERIOUSLY. (Please make out more.)
I have to say, all the inter-OTP communication is just really dull. I know these people will end up together and thus all sorts of OTP breaking up will occur but they're just really boring to watch. (In this case, Tae Joo/Hye Rin work talk.)
I found a gif of the elevator kiss though sadly it ends before the actual kiss:
"Stop puckering your lips so tightly.. Just relax.." and (gif ends here) then she goes, "Eh?" and THEN he kisses her and it's brainmeltingly awesommeeeee.
Okay, back to *this* episode...
She waits for him omg. And then he waits for her, and yells at her but says sorry and they go on their date. Mmmm OTP.
And she's still asking "Why did you kiss me?", and she's so cute because it seems she really can't understand it. She's so adorably innocent. I LOVE IT. And she's straight-forward, too, saying, "Let's date" and "I've thought about it over and over again - the only person I want to kiss is ajusshi" (what she calls him). And he's like WTFNO! Because yeah, they aren't exactly compatible. But they are the perfect kdrama couple for that. <333
Ahhh secondary OTP and their little power battles. That love just cannot be, can it?
OMG. Tae Joo and Hye Rin just totally went for it!!! Tae Joo you manslut!!
But omg omg, he rejects Hye Rin's "pretending-to-be-her-fiancee" contract offer and tells her, "I have a girlfriend."
ROFLMAO!!!! Eun Soo filed a crime report against hiss elevator kiss!! To the police! Holy crap that is hilarious. kdskdgfdhfgjfg THIS IS THE BEST POST-KISS THING IN KDRAMA EVERR.
And she's drunk off her ass and omg omg her monologue about why he should go to jail and eeeee. THIS OTP!
And the next morning he won't leave her alone and she's sorry and he asks her out. Omgomgomgomgomg. It's late but there's always time for one more ep of QSS!
Predictions; oh oh oh this OTP is so all about heartbreak and they're not even together and oh man, it's like I'm putting the knife in my own hand and directing it at my own heart and I'm even enjoying it. I must be crazy. But hey, I'm a sucker for playboys falling in love and it really seems to be like that, slowly slowly, for Tae Joo and Eun Soo is just too adorable for words and their love is like ..it just is. And they both make each other go crazy. I love them so much.
Oh right, predictions, er. Obviously Hye Rin will get her love contract with Tae Joo and Tae Joo will be all sorts of bastard to Eun Soo and Eun Soo will find semi-comfort in Joon Hyuk who needs a lady to get back at Hye Rin OR SOMETHING.
God, it's the good ol' kdrama 4-angle but honestly? STILL LOVING IT TO PIECES KTHNX.
Also:
QSS Eric kisses MV // Elevator kiss starts at 00:47.
It's a catalyst kiss, really. It's what starts things, not what things build up to. For that, I think Goong final kiss is still my fave dorama kiss, things, everything builds up to it. But this one is the most excellent catalyst kiss I've seen in dramas thus far. Its place in the drama is just undeniably awesome and it just. Works. Also? Hot hot hot hot. And I love the characters in it, Eun Soo is understandably passive and amazed by the kiss and Tae Joo is smooth and professional about it.
Episode 5
She's so straight-forward and awesome. <33 "I don't think ajusshi is that good-looking" & naturally he's offended & "I told you I like you because i do" & "Are we on a date now?" and he smiles and omg they are just the cutest. <33
THEY'RE DATING I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. And they realistic attitude they both have, knowing it won't last long (considering his nature) and ahh the enormous cuteosity of the couple all the same, and how she's all, "I want to date lots!" and her mother arriving and and and..
Giftime!!
Siiiigh. They are so cute.
Haha, Hye Rin just totally owned the blind date guy. "You really are a loose woman." "How does it feel to get rejected by a loose woman?"
You know, the car scene just reminded me that Tae Joo's really kind of a bastard. But here's the thing - he's sort of a believable bastard. Like, he's not obscenely evil, he has a nice, soft side, and he's just this sort of a no-bullshit type of guy. I love this drama for having characters that both fit and don't fit the stereotype.
Omg her job interview!!
Really liked the Hye Rin/Tae Joo scene just there where he's all "Yeah, love's cool.. Just don't fall in love too deep or it'll hurt". Um, foreshadowing much??
Oh Tae Joo you bastard. A nice car over your gf? BASTARD.
Oh but he's back! They missed the boat. Literally. Heh.
Tae Joo, you can't break up with her, you only just got together with her! Come on, don't do this to my poor shipper heart. :(
I love her attitude, though. God, a heroine who's both naive and straightforward. Eun Soo wins ♥
HEARTBREAK TO THE MAX. ;______;
OH EUN SOO. I just realized - and hope - this is much like Sam-soon and like, first the love is all one-sided but then, the guy also falls in love big time. I HOPE.
Ha, Hye Rin & Tae Joo's love act. Pffft. Grrr.
dfjgdjfgdfjhg he's at her office with Hye Rin. She broke the tea cups. WHY DO I WANT TO CRY SO MUCH.
Ahh dysfunctional secondary OTP. I love her line, "This time.. I'm not letting go of the one I love so easily". Eeeeeyikes. Suck it, Joon Hyuk!
Tae Joo you cruel bastard. ;______; His teasing of her on the phone was like, gahhhh, I KNOW YOU LOVE HER YOU SCUM, why not just admit it and make everybody's lives easier? Wahh. Bastard.
Preview for ep 6: OMG Tae Joo jealousy. KNEW IT.
I have to go to bed but srsly. This drama is awesome. Perhaps not My Girl in rewatchability or MNIKSS in comedy, but heartbreakingly awesome all the same.
Episode 6
This drama has an excellent OST. I downloaded Bless You by Loveholic & Marilyn Monroe by W & Whale. Both are such OTP-y songs. <33
Eun Soo is so heartbroken omg. :(
And her mother is AWFUL. She just takes her savings and gahhhh. Kdrama parents = HATE.
I just remembered episode 6 preview.. Oh shit her mother IS awful!
Tae Joo you sonnuvabitch. I love how Eun Soo just lets him hear it. Her heart is getting kicked around but at least she isn't just silent about his slight taunting of her. "Parachute employee", ha, so true.
Oddly enough I feel sort of bad for Tae Joo because he really can't seem to get ahead in life based on his skills - it's really always his looks. It doesn't seem to burden him but I bet it does. I love Eun Soo's "You seem to have too little pride" and Tae Joo's jealousy in the elevator.
Her mother SOLD HER TO A GANGSTER'S BAR arggghhhh geez. Oh and Eun Soo's an orphan! Or like, not her mother's own child. Oh intrigue.
The Tae Joo/Hye Rin conversations are always so ...weird to watch. It's like they constantly have their little games going on. They're both such manipulative, quick-witted people, but not really in a good way. In a ...peculiar, almost creepy way.
Oh GOD at the bar she has to work at. Wait, this is the part where Joon Hyuk pays the money and she feels she's indebt to him so she has to agree to anything he says and thus date him and shit, right? Ahhh predictability.
He takes her flying! OMG what the shit! And "Isn't it amazing director and I were thinking the same thing?".. Hmmm I might like Eun Soo/Joon Hyuk.
Ahhh Kang Tae Joo sshi, why not admit you're possessive and jealous over Eun Soo because you luv her? IT'S SO OBVIOUS COME ON.
Yay graituitous Eric shower scene. It's like this was made by fangirls or something. And he cannot stop thinking about her omg.
Even hunts her down at work and sits with her at lunch. *She* should tell him to get the hell over it. FOR REALS. Tae Joo - you luv herrr.
Why does Joon Hyuk get those pics of buildings mailed to him?? Intriguee.. And yep, of course he settles Eun Soo's money woes. They are quite cute together. Better than the other wrong OTP of Hye Rin/Tae Joo.
Hye Rin's dad: "I really want to throw her in the trash bin." WTFFFFF. Kdrama parents for the motherfucking FAIL.
Hye Rin's mother could STFU. She's so annoying, argh.
Oooh Pseudocest OTP scene. Just make out or something.
Ji Soo is getting stalked! :OOO
And then she lets Tae Joo hear it. YESS. But he's a bastard to her. Grrr.
Ohhh so Eun Soo works as a maid now?! At Joon Hyuk's house? :O
Hokay, drama. More OTP stuff that doesn't involve Tae Joo mercilessly taunting Eun Soo would be awesome. C'mon, throw me a bone here.
