There's slight spoilers for the first episode, but nothing too major.
Good Luck!! is GOOOOOOD. Actually that's a lie, Good Luck!! is great, possibly even amazing. I don't know how I've gotten so deep into dramas and not watched it until now. It pretty much has everything that I could want for in a drama. There's the earnest new guy on the job, who's not afraid to risk his job to do what's right. There's the girl mechanic who's tight lipped, but totally kick ass, and not afraid to say what needs to be said. There's the hard core, scary captain who's haunted by the past, and determined to not let the past repeat itself. There's cute secondary OTPs, AWESOME chemistry between the main OTP, Milch! (Nodame Cantabile) and Okami-san (HYD), and airplanes. Really, how did I miss this? And did I also mention Kimura Takuya? But before I completely start babbling about just how awesome this show was, I'll do a break down of the various characters and the show.
So to start with, we have Kimura Takuya in the form of Co-pilot Shinkai. (sorry about the small pic!)
Yeah..he's a little cocky. And those aviators don't really help his case. I didn't realize this prior to the show, but in each plane there's a Captain, who's the pilot in charge, and the co-pilot, who's kind of like a trainee. Although the co-pilot knows how to fly a plane, land, and all those other things, they need experience in how to deal with different kinds of situations. Which is what Shinkai's doing throughout the show : D Shinkai is a very outspoken co-pilot: he says what's on his mind and is very passionate about his job. Because he's just so passionate, he's sometimes a little hot headed, which gets him in trouble....And coincidentally leads us to......
Kouda-san! Captain Kouda is hard core but amazing. Yes, I am kind of in love with him. stfu, I'm well aware that he's about 17 times older than me, but he's just so awesome. ANYWAYS, Captain Kouda used to be a pilot just like Shinkai, but now he's become an exacting task master, so much so that everyone hates him. He always puts the safety of passengers above all else, even if it means not going easy on his staff. The only person who isn't afraid to talk to him is the stewardess (or CA), Togashi Noriko.
She's also pretty much teh awesome. She's close with Shinkai and provides honest and neutral advice for him. She's been a CA for a long time, so she knows the in's and outs of the business like no other. One of the new CA's on board is ....
Fukaura Urara! She's there mainly to anger me when she comes between the OTP. No really, that's kind of her main purpose. Alright, so she does other things as well, and she's never detestable. I even grew to somewhat like her for the second half of the show. She's one of the newer CA's and she's mainly there to find a pilot to get married to. She doesn't always take the job seriously and put the passengers first. BUT, she slowly changes and matures throughout the series and isn't half bad by the end. Speaking of OTPs, the OTP of this show has amazing chemistry together.
This is their first meeting! Ogawa Ayumi
is a mechanic also working for the airlines. She's not exactly the most outgoing person you'll meet. She's blunt to the point of being rude and she thinks that Shinkai is a pretty big jerk. And she does have good reason: he insults her workmanship the first time that they officially meet....But she and Shinkai have amazing chemistry together. She doesn't do especially well with feelings and niceties, which is a huge part of Shinkai, so they're hilarious together. It's not something that I can really put into words. But they're definitely one of my top 10 all time favorite couples. Their romance is funny and sweet, and although it takes awhile for things to start moving, they don't have all that unnecessary angst. Which I loved! I bring, for your viewing pleasure, one of my favorite scenes from the first episode:
If you can't read it, here's a quick script
Ayumi: What about you? Why did you become a pilot?
Shinkai: You want to know?
Ayumi: Not really.
Shinkai: If you say it like that then the conversation ends...
Ayumi: Ok then, to be surrounded by pretty stewardesses, get paid lots of money and fulfill your pride.
Ohh...I love Ayumi so much. She's the perfect compliment to Shinkai. And what's even better is that she has a motorcyle!
I highly recommend this show to everyone! Although, to be fair, I now am under the impression that Japanese people are extremely rowdy on airplanes. They also have issues following orders from the pilot and the stewardesses. And disregard seatbelt signs. Who would have thought?
Anyways, a few more random pics from the show:
YES! That is Milch/Franz Stresemann from Nodame Cantabile. His character also has a thing for Gokuon and young women....tsk tsk tsk.
There's also Okami-san from HYD and Satoshi from Himitsu no Hanazono, but I just couldn't get any good screencaps of them...*is sheepish*
