My comp is currently in pieces on the table. Yesterday afternoon, it shut itself off and refused to boot Windows (or the boot CD I have). Based on this, my father and a family friend and Mole figured it was a power supply issue (since the power supply I had in it has a history of fan failure leading to overall unit failure). Went to BestBuy, new power supply GET, installed it, and all seemed happy for about five minutes until it shut itself off again and then refused to boot Windows.

So, after some looking, we determine that it is an overheating issue (CPU temp was like 80 degrees C, which is the shutoff temp for my comp). I opened it up to investigate, and it seems that the metal strap that keeps the heat sink and cooler seated on the CPU has popped loose on one corner. Okay, Dad said I could just get the thing popped back down and all should be well.

Except that the little bracket I'm supposed to attach the hook on the strap to has SNAPPED THE FUCK OFF.

So now I have to see if I can find a replacement part (something like this or this) locally, get some heat paste, and redo all that happy horseshit before I can have my computer back.

Angry panda is angry.

Considering keeping the new power supply though, because it's much nicer than the one I had in there, and will likely play nicer with my current video card.
